"The Modern Sports Car"
Question:

Just found this book in a used book shop - by Tom McCahill (famous sports car writer in the 50's)
Printed in 1954
You might like some of his comments:
"In a few words, this is what it all boils down to: The vehicle-ignorant (victims of false propaganda) are as blissfully at ease in their Michigan Monsters as the village idiot might be playing with a loaded cannon."
"The well-educated automobile man, by the same token, relaxes in absolute comfort at 100 miles an hour in a good sports car. He might very well turn into a straight-jacket case if he were forced to ride in some of our (1954) cars at 75 MPH. His mentality demands mental comfort first, bottom-lushness second."
"He has been told (or it comes to him out of the dark, distant past) that his must be a good road handling car because it is big and HEAVY - everybody knows how well a big, heavy car holds the road, especially on ice and snow."
"This belief goes back to blood-letting and goose-grease for pneumonia. It was started by the Madison Avenue Ad Kids' fathers (who were mostly banjo players with third-rate medicine shows). It has absolutely NO basis in fact."
"Buying a second-hand sports car can easily be compared to a guy looking forward to a long, happy married life with a gal that's already been married eight times. Unless you know the real, complete history of a second-hand sports car from the day it left the factory, you may find yourself with a lemon slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island."
Well - to me of course - the book is interesting.
I don't know who wrote in the fly page - but this quote is priceless:
"Donne e motori - gioie e dolori" (Women and motors - joys and anguish)
