Question:
Ok that's it...I'm done with Jeeps... After an engine, clutch, main seal, transfercase, drive shaft and numerous other things, I'm done with Jeeps and I'm getting rid of this one. I was on my way home last night and my gear shifter keep getting closer and closer to my leg...IN FIFTH GEAR. I pull off at a gas station pop the hood and my drivers side engine mount ripped all three bolts out of the side of the block...I'm done with it, I want another 280ZX for a daily driver while I restore my Z. This has just become so much of a PITA it's rediculous. I love offroading, but it's not worth every paycheck I have coming in. You're telling me. I used that so many times and finally I'm tired of empty pockets. I want another ZX. The one I had in high school never failed me. My buddies 83 ZX get over 25mpg and never quits on him out of the blue. I agree, the early 4.0L blocks were horrible castings. I have 3 now and all have the piston bores out of line vertically and horizontally, each one has also had a broken piston. The last one I got hoping to be good had 77,xxx some odd miles on it. Each bore has anywhere from a 1/16 to 1/8" thick wear lip but only on one side of the bore. It's like the whole rotating assembly is out of line or just plain sloppy. I think I'm just going to put an EFI small block in our 90 cherokee. Or sell the thing with no motor. Sad thing is its a loaded 4x4 laredo with all options including towing and its in perfect shape inside and out. Matt Answer:
Well, mine has a practically new motor in it. Yeah big surprise to me also. It's just as damned heavy as the old iron blocks, but it's aluminum. That's odd. Usually 99% of the time people have nothing but very good things to say about Jeep products. I guess sometimes there's just certain ones that no matter what, it's going to be a piece of crap, while all your friend's Jeeps run perfect every day of the week :) Answer:

I believe the later 4.0 after 90-91 were better quality and had slighly improved EFI as well, but that is just what I've read on the internet so who know's... If anyone knows someone who wants a cherokee that is in excellent shape minus the motor email me, I really just want it out of the garage. Matt Answer:

I love my 93 Grand Chero Limited. 265000 miles on it and it runs great. But.... I have replaced and repaired a bunch of stuff. Like: Transfer case was replaced by previous owner @140000 (Owner put unlike tires front to rear!!! BAD) bought it at 150000 miles CAS @160000 miles (waited for my to buy it) exhaust manifold @165000 radiator @170000 heater core @185000 Transmission @199000 !!!! Damn !!!
