"new" truck queston
Question:

H Guys!
My hubby and I have been looking at a 94 Chevy c1500 pickup truck.
It has a v6 engine, lots of new stuff under the hood and is very clean.
It has at least 150,000 miles on it. The body doesn't have any large dents, but the paint is scratched and scraped in some places, but still looks good. It drives good and seems to have enough power.
I value all of your opinions. Is this truck worn out, or does it have a lot of miles left? I think that it has been taken good care of.
Thanks guys!
Patti

Answer:

My buddy has a C1500WT, and the thing has well over 235,000 on it.
The truck is far from worn out, but get the V8!
His main complaint is the V8 actually gets BETTER gas mileage than the V6!
More power, better mileage, more towing capacity. The best of both worlds.
For the same price, you will find one with a V8 and not be sorry you got that one instead!

Answer:

You might as well grap one with a V8. In a comaprison of my '00 6.0L 2500 to a '00 V6 1500 there was only 3 MPG difference (when new), 16 vs 19. At 130K, mine still gets 16. Towing capacity was night and day...just isn't worth it in my opinion. The V6 has to work very hard, in normal driving my 6.0L rarely sees above 2000 RPMs. I have towed in excess of it's rated capacity with nothing more than an adjustment to the trailer brake setting, no noticeable difference in MPG from 5000 Lbs loads to capacity loads.
As for that one being worn out.....it all depends on what it has been called upon to do in the past. If it's been used for a car, it's ok. If it's been used for a truck, it's probably going to get tired in short order.
Trucks are made for hauling, might as well get one that can.

Answer:

Maybe Clairfy, "Small V8"
Some of the smaller V8's get BETTER gas mileage than the V6.
it might not show it on CAFE and the Sticker, but it's not uncommon to break 20 driving flatlands with minimal loads (most of the time for most trucks!)
For camparison, my Wife's Frontier gets maybe 16 in town, and 20 on the highway if she's driving it.
When I drive it, I can get the same kind of mileage in my F250 fully loaded! Well, close anyway. F250 gets 12-15 on the street/freeway, and the Frontier gets between 16-19 (maybe 19 if I'm fortunate!) on the freeway crusing at similar speeds.

Answer:

My grandpa's '93 would get 24mpg on the highway without a load and he had the 305. The only thing to keep in mind is after 150,000 or so most of them get a transmission rebuild. Not all, but look at the ones for sale on ebay. Most of them do.

I rebuilt it with a shift kit, all the "good stuff" on the company Amex, and it lasted another 75K...
Only thing was it was probably the only G30 I kenw that would chirp second! LOL
