Z32 Tranny on L28 block. PIX!
Question:
I spent a few hours which felt like a few days working on a special project. I'm mating a Z32 5 speed to an L28 block. If any of you go to hybridz.org then you know there's someone working on this. Long story short, I can't wait and I'm not paying an insane $900.00 + for a kit. Please don't email me about this, This is just a teaser thread and the prototype is not 100% complete. It all lines up correctly, In the pix you will see that I don't have the starter setup yet. Nore is the bellhousing machined. This is just a trial fit and this prototype might not be used on a car. SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE! Answer:

Same here. How is the thickness of the adapter compensated for and how did you check run-out on the bell? Faster than a Motorola Answer:
Dang Pallnet, what tempted you to attempt the unattemptable? You plan on putting more power through it than the stock tranny will hold (which is over 400) or are you just showing that you have brass balls? :) Answer:
"Nore is the bellhousing machined. " To make this work I will have to machine out the bellhousing the same thickeness as the adapter to recess the adapter into the bellhousing. This is not new, just new to the "L" motor. Then the Z32 transmission sits exactly where the L transmission sits. They both have the same spline count and diamter of input shaft. Stock (Mine is not exactly stock) "L" clutch, flywheel and starter will be used. SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE! Answer:
Why is it needed? Heavier, more HP loss, etc. SX tranny is the cure. I know a few guys laying 430 PLUS on stock trannys, B boxes, with slicks on a race car, NO problems. If its not broke why fix it? Why accellerate all that extra mass? Lots of Z cars, 1970's-1983's. 1977, Megasquirt, 12.8@ 105, 1.70 60 Foot, 2940 LBS. Blake Machine Co, Phx, AZ http://bandmzcars.com http://blakemachineprojects.com http://www.zselect.com Answer:
Why didn't Nissan continue the "C" box (SX tranny) past the RB20DET? Sure the "B" and "C" boxes will work fine for a while but repeated abuse takes it's toll alot quicker on the smaller trannys. Longevity and reliability through repeated abuse are the issues. "C" boxes will be harder to find in the future as long as the drifting crowd continues to beat them to death. So this will open new doors. This is not a swap for everyone and it's not something I'm offering. This is just one of my projects. I don't mind carrying a little extra weight in the car. I guess if it were a problem I would just have to build more motor.. ;) SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE! Answer:

Updated pics. I installed the starter today so now it's ready to be fit to a complete engine with the bellhousing of the tranny machined. The machining of the bellhousing hasn't been done yet. I have a few other things to do not related to this, before I can machine the bellhousing. SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE! Answer:

get the starter a lot closer to where it normally is for a l28? Answer:
What tranny is that, I know its a Z32 but is it a true nissan box, it looks alot like a T5. What sort of power is that tranny rated to handle? Matt Answer:
The starter is in the stock location for the L28. The setup will use everything from the L28 such as flywheel, clutch and starter. The transmission is basicly there to follow through. SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE! Answer:
It's a Z32 N/A 5 speed. The turbo tranny is the same just wiht a slight change in the bellhousing. The tranny is supposed to be rated to handle somewhere near 700 pounds of torque from what I hear. The drifting crowd with SR's are already starting to switch to this tranny. SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE! Answer:
My earlier post didn't make it through. What if you started with the z31 version of that transmission. I believe the starter is pretty close to the L28 location right from the factory.
