this is why i don't like cops
Question:
i parked outside my house last night cause the driveway was full...last snow they plowed all the streets and that stuff iced over the road and the sidewalk, so i pull in last night and if i park off the ice i'm in the street so i parked a little on top and i got a ticket this morning for parking ont he sidewalk. we live on a real real quiet street and everyone walks down the damn street anyway if they are going on a walk or walkin the dogs. that ******* needs to find something better to do with his time then write me a ticked for that horse$hit. Answer:
they started enforcing that law here too. Answer:
i once had a cop leave me a ticket at 3 o'clock in the morning for parking my car facing the wrong way on the street!!! talk about not having something better to do. then about 6 months later, someone threw a bunch of rocks through my bedroom window and at my 4-runner. this happened about 2 in the morning. i sat outside and waited for the po-po until 7 a.m.!!! apparently, the cop said my girlfriend should sound "more scared" if it happened again and they would bump us up on the list of priority!!!!!!! ouch. '78 280z -41,000 original(?) miles. a work in progress..... Answer:
it's a 20 dollar ticket...it's just that he took the time to write out a ticket for me parking the wheels on the curb....in a place that it really doesn't even matter. the main reason i do it is because if i park right on that ice it's so rough that my open diffy doesn't like it....so i ahve literally been stuck on the way to work. Answer:
it's easy for a cop to write a ticket when the car is right there parked incorrectly. it's impossible for a cop to track down people throwing rocks when even the person calling cannot identify anything or anyone(so it's almost pointless to come and take a statement). 79 280ZX -The best selling sports car of all time Answer:
Hehe... Get one of those 'rigged' Lotuses like Bond had in 'For your Eyes Only' and then take the tags off and park it whereever you want. The cop goes to ticket it and can't find the tag. He'll either put a red sticker on the windshield which you can scrape off (but no monetary ticket) or he calls to have it towed. He calls the tow truck to tow it away and as soon as the tow truck driver tries to jimmy the lock...BOOM! That tow truck driver will never tow another car for no reason again and the cop will never write another ticket again! Problem solved. Or you could just leave a really pissed off, attitudinal Rottweiler/Dobie/Pit or Shepard in the back that knows how to open doors to keep the cop away from the car! God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them! Answer:
park correctly. there is no need to mess with other people doing their job just because you screwed up. Answer:
What sucks more is the fact that the cop is probably FROM your own neighborhood or was CALLED OVER by somebody from your own neighborhood. I've never understood why people can't give others a chance (i.e. asking you to move it) before they go and be a douche like that. It'd be a different situation if it wasn't outside your house but... Above and beyond all--that cop most likely called in your info and was standing outside smirking as he realized he was writing the vehicle a ticket at the location it was registered for... mnelson_260z 73 240zT w/ t3/t4e @ 13psi, MSnS, 450cc DSMs on pallnet rail, NPR IC, roll cage, more.... 74.5 260z w/ AZZcar brakes up front, Tokico springs/struts, 99k orig miles, more... I know what you mean. cops are all over easy ways to make money. I saw someone driving the wrong way down the street the other night, and about 7 cop cars were needed to pull this person over, whom they let go anyway. 7 cops to pull over a middle aged black woman who was probably no bigger than 5'4" and 110 lbs. driving a fairly new toyota matrix. not more than a week earlier, a co-worker of mine got robbed at gunpoint on a delivery (pizzza delivery) and it took the cops 3 godamned hours to come over and take a statement. then after that they went to partol the area he had been robbed in! yeah, like the theives are going to hang out for 3 hours in that neighborhood. I won't go through all the defenses for the Police on why they do what they do. If you don't do their job you don't know what that job is really like. On the neighborhood B.S. it is just that - someonje in the neighborhood is trying everyone else how to live to "keep up the property values". The Cops hate that kind of B.S. ticketing but the Councilman of that district is putting pressure so their Captain puts it on the patrol Cops; a bunch of tickets are written and everyone is happy except the poor citizens who got the tickets. It's happened every couple of years in my neighborhood and I have not paid and will not pay for those B.S. tickets - #1 Parked wrong way; #2 parked 1 1/2 feet from curb ( this is where the font of car is parked nose in on a cul-de-sac circle or front part of car is at curb and the back half is in the cul-de-sac). I have 8 vehicles and last week I worked 24 hours straight, came home had 2 1/2 hours sleep when wife got me up 'cause City worker was demanding I prove I didn't have "junk" cars under the car covers. I yelled enough for the whole neighborhood to hear - "you don't put a $300 custom fitted car cover on junk" and I showed him Zelda - now 25 years old and an official Antique Collectable car. He said you have to start all these cars and I said " no I don't have to do anything but pay taxes and die". I then demanded that the harrassement stop: this has happened about once a year for the last four years. He threatened to call the Police and I was mad enough to tell him to do it I would wait. He left. He came back the next week with a Cop. I smailed and knew this was going to happen but I didn't knowThe guy I yelled at was out of the H.P.D. but I don't think he was a "Certified Peace Officer". They greated me with a polite "good morning" and "how are you doing" (The ATTITUDE test) and I answered back with a polite and cheerful "I got 8 hours of sleep so I'm in a reasonable mood". Then I told the "City" guy with H.P.D. jacket on that I owed him an appology for yelling at him and I know he had to do his job. So how can we fix this and get the "complainer off my back". All I have to do is arrange a time for him to come over, start the cars and he'll flag them in the computer to stop the complaints. It's City election time and a nearby Neighborhood Assoc. is trying to make points - The Mayor and City Council are trying to get re-elected and it just so happens the "reffugees" from New Orleans (N.O.'s dregs and this is no predjudicial statement - murder, robbery, assaults and drug dealing in my Zip code are 25% higher than before Katrina & Rita.) have "flooded" S.W. Houston and some other high density population areas. Oh, sorry, this was your rant - didn't mean to hog. Pay the ticket or don't. Houston tried to get me to pay a parking ticket for 8 years and gave up. I think I have 2 tickets and maybe 2 years out of 5 or 6 to go. why dont you get a bar and shovel out and chip and clean the ice out in front of your house or throw some melt salt on it and make it go away. it seems that would be better than getting a ticket . i have to clean the ice out in front of my house several times each winter- sure its work but work never hurt anyone and im proud of the neighborhood i live in. i even shovel the snow of my 2 70 yr old neighbors sidewalks. and i get homemade chocolate chip cookies each time. its amazing how people will treat you when you are nice to them. ____________________________________ 1980 280ZX coupe 2001 maxima 1994 F150 4x4 van works custom truck 170000 and never needed mech repairs 1996 ford explorer -they cant all be good Answer:

erzelda, your cars ARE "junk" if they are parked around the house or on the street and don't run. Houston Police Department: What is a Junk Motor Vehicle? A junk motor vehicle is any vehicle that: Has either an expired license plate or an invalid safety inspection sticker and Is wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled or discarded; Has either an expired license plate or an invalid safety inspection and Is inoperable and remains inoperable for a continuous period of more than 30 days on private property. Any such vehicle must be screened by completely enclosing the vehicle in a building. Car covers, tarps, bamboo shades and other types of materials are not acceptable screening. This junk car business is BS. I was a member of Tidewater Z Car Club for about a year in VA. They along with a bunch of other car enthusiast were fighting the local government to get this kind of legislation repealed. For example a guy in a local club there (I think a Vette club) went on deployment and while gone had 2 cars towed and CRUSHED while he was gone. it's just sad to know that my protection is riding around writing me a ticket for having a wheel on their delapidated curb while i'm parked in front of my own ****in house. Answer:
were less than favorable. yeah, police are here to protect and serve. not once have i felt protected or served. How is writing parking tickets protecting? it certainly is serving thier budget. Why does it take them sooooo long to respond to something like a robbery at gunpoint or a stolen car report, yet when one cop pulls someone over on a road for a routine traffic stop, 10 other squad cars need to swarm in and get in on the action? on a side note, I was talking to my cowrker lst night about his robbery and he siad that when the police finally did show up (3 hours after he calle dit in) he asked them what took them 3 hours to show up after he got robbed and the cop told him that if he wanted to police to get there sooner he should have called sooner. he then told the policeman that he called RIGHT after it happened, which was 3 hours ago, and showed him the call time on his cell. the cop didnt say much after that. I had 2 cars stolen when I lived in phoenix, and both times it took the police over 3 hours to get there and take a statement. The first time (and remember, this is phoenix where "grand theft auto is no joke!" they have billboards plastered all over) it took them 3 months to find my car, and when they did, it still had the NORTH DAKOTA PLATES ON IT!!!! and the only reason they "found" it was because whomever stole it illegally parked it, and it was towed. also, when I got the car back, there was a complete 3 RING BINDER from a local community college with the persons name and class schedule in it (ever seen The Big Lebowski?) I handed it over to the police and they NEVER prosecuted. not to mention I had to PAY $160 to get it out of impound. the 2nd car was stolen and again they found it parked illegally when it broke down on the side of the road. I had to pay another $160 to get MY STOLEN CAR OUT OF IMPOUND. then they had names and what not, but to this day, still no porsecution. good thing Grand theft auto is no joke and is punishable by up to 10 yrs in jail in PHX. Now the disclaimer. i am sure there are police out there that do their job, and they are protecting me without me knowing it (putting bad guys in jail) and I do appreciate that. But it seems like the police that I have dealt with dont want anything to do with small crimes stuff and will only rush to the scene if there is some chance of glory or a spot on the news for a big drug bust or some other bullshit ego stroking crap. And Funny enough, I knew a chick that was an intern at the sheriffs office for ramsey county and she said the exact same thing. "if you ever see a cop on the streets its about a 99% chance that they are on their way to some big call, trying to get there before all the others do and get their name in the paper. They dont care about the small stuff." Erzelda:"and I'm sure as hell not going to take crap from anyone coming on my property and Telling me what I Have to do" well, that is what is meant by living in a civil society. having 8 cars in the yard is a tad much in a residential area. if you want "independance", then move away from your residential area (and into a business area or outside of town). your "independance" obviously ends when you chose to live in a residential area. Answer:
"And I'm sure as hell not going to take crap from anyone coming on my property and Telling me what I Have to do." When a man takes his lifetime to stock up 110 Corvairs as a retirement hobby, pays for a lot on "junkyard row" to corral them, and then puts up a fence so they are invisible from the street to casual passer's by---only to come to his yard one day to find the LOCKS CUT OFF, and has to resort to PERSONAL FIREARMS BRANDISHMENT to keep the tow/impound drivers from carting any more off because some city councilman has a hard on for his "intractability", the pendulum has swung toooooo far one way! The case I mention ended up in court, and I don't know what eventually happened, but city councilmembers and the city itself were SUED and were enjoined from further "enforcement action" because what they were doing contravened state laws regarding vehicular storage. I versed myself well on storage law, and chose a rural/blighted area in which to live so I would not have to DEAL with bureaucrats. Unfortunately, yuppie gentrification has made my trailer and acreage worth FAR more than I ever IMAGINED it would EVER be worth in my lifetime (I am talking a return on investment of over 600% in less than 7 years!) So now I have to occasionally deal with petty bureaucrats in "Code Enforcement" who think I am just another example of White Trash living in a trailer. And lo and behold, I SPEAK! And am erudite! And conversant on the law which they proclaim to enforce... After the last run-in where I soundly rammed their ticket book up their firurative behind by qouting chapter and verse on "Collector Exemptions" in the Satte of California, they seem to have gone away for the time being. I know the realestate developers are calling in their lap-dogs to do the dirty work for them. The job they refuse to do face to face. The job that will raise their comission. I have a real problem with government telling people what they can do on their own land. It's bought, and dammit, if I want to spread waste on it to dry I'll do it. I make concessions to my neighbors and don't, but as long as they ask me, and I ask them that's as far as ANYBODY has sway over what is done on someone's property. Blighted cars and abandoned car legislation has a place, but if someone is living there, the car isn't abandoned. if the owner consents to it's removal, fine---tow it away. But if the owner objects, unless the government PAYS HIM FOR IT they should NOT be able to summarily TAKE HIS PROPERTY and dispose of it! Now, by owner, I mean OWNER OF THE LAND. Yes, that's right, if you are RENTING, you are S.O.L. The place is NOT "yours" and you HAVE NO RIGHTS like a landowner would have. Sorry if that rubs some people the wrong way, but renter's just are in a different league when it comes to "property rights" and if the landlord says move the crap off the lot, you better move it! Now in my neighborhood: actually very nice tree lined hard working middle to uppers middle class people (black, white, brown, yellow almost even mix of ethnicity) the houses - city says are worth $150,000 + : Point - in this 'hood are Semi- tracktor rigs: a dozen 16 foot lawn care trailers; pluming supply trucks other "working class vehicles" and many families with more cars on the street and in the drive than I have.
