Adhesive for Melting Headlight Housing Fix?
Question:
I'm installing the tube that fit into the headlamp housing to keep the sun from carving notches into the assembly. I have some 3M Super Weatherstrip & Gasket Adhesive and wonder how that will work or if I should go find something else like Loctite RTV Black Silicone Adhesive, etc.

Any suggestions on adhesive for this task?
Answer:
OK the 3M product is not ideal for this application. It gets everywhere including inside the assy. Not good.

I had some DOW Corning RTV Sealant 732 lying around and that seems to work great. I was going to use Loctite RTV Black but the local stores didn't have it.
Answer:
Why not try trim adhesive? They have a double sided sticky tape in the automotive section.
Answer:
This stuff is not cheap but Ford part# F7AZ-19554-EA "silicone gasket and sealant" may work for you.
Use it sparingly. It withstands shear better than the usual silicone sealants.

3M may or may not last a year.

Answer:
I used the 5 minutes epoxy by "chevron", i think.
Answer:
Mine were installed by the local Lotus dealership. When I removed the housings to re-aim my lights, I noticed they were just slipped into place (no adhesive of any sort). I have had no problems with them backing out (over 2000 miles since - I guess the lenses would stop them from backing out).

I also used RTV silicone sealant, and it worked really well.
