15k mile service
Question:
I have my 15k service at Dimmitt (Lotus dealer) scheduled Monday Nov 13th. Does anyone know what Lotus's checklist consists of for the 15k service? Anyone have a copy so I can expect what will be done and make sure everything is completed. I also have troublesome items that are going to be added. Oil leak under oil cooler, ALL tires balanced, sun bubble in dash, rear vent (over engine) cracked, seat belt plastic cover fell off driver's side and is loose on the passenger side,!After the procedure, I am going to ask for a copy of it and I will post it up here. Price there is $400. Anyone been at Dimmitt b4? Answer:
Funny, I paid around 400 at newport, so sounds about right. I have the invoice right here, 15k parts and labor was 411 I also had the air filter replaced, 116 Brake fluid 222 +tax, total came to 808 Answer:

Look in your service booklet or at the service manual if you have it. That pretty much will give you an idea of what is to be done. Or just go here - http://www.gglotus.org/ggtech/elise-msch/schedule.pdf

Sounds like alot of sun damage that I don't get because my car is always under a car cover.....I guess. Answer:
Sounds like alot of sun damage that I don't get because my car is always under a car cover.....I guess. Nope. That's happened to a lot of cars - mine included. Mine is garage kept both at home and at work. Replaced under warranty. Answer:
Oh wow..really? You got a sun bubble in your dash? What is that?
Answer:
I don't know if I have a pic somewhere... I'll see. But think of your dashboard getting multiple blisters and that should give you a good idea.Edit: Nope. No pics. You get the idea, though. Answer:

+1 The "savings" pay for mods (at least partially) Answer:

+2. And if it took me an hour to do a really careful brake fluid change, then I'm working at a $200/ hr shop rate (even if the brake fluid was a lot less than $20/qt). I'm so proud of myself now Not to mention the bonus points for actually understanding the car better. Jim Answer:
Thanks Icedog, that was what i was looking for! As for the sun bubble, seems like the glue lotus uses gave way and yes imagine a blister in your dash. My car is always in the shade and is garage kept.

Nope. Like I said, other than driving to and from work a few days a week and farting around on the weekend, my car is always in shade of some sort. I would think that, since his car and my car are in FL, it may be a function of heat as it gets hotter here for longer than where you are. I can't speak for the guys in AZ or wherever. Most likely, I think it is just a defect as mine did it pretty quickly from new. The new dash has been in the car much longer than than the first one and I have nary a bubble to date. <== Closest thing I could find to 'knock on wood'. Answer:

Yeah, I've upgraded my headlights, did my 7500 mi service, installed an intake, and installed a Stebel Nautilus horn (which turned out to be much more difficult than it should have been - thanks, Lotus and second oil cooler. Not that I'm complaining about having a second oil cooler ). This, by the way, is more than I have done to any of my cars combined. So I am pretty happy with myself. Especially considering the fix-it genes I've inherited from my dad! But man, I am just too leery of doing anything with my brakes. Changing pads looks easy enough, but I cringe at the idea that they failed because I missed some little detail. When it comes to that stuff, I think I'd be better served by having someone more qualified do it. As an added plus, should the brakes then fail, I have transferred liability for the failure to the party who worked on my car. (Sorry, just a little insurance agent thought process going on there. I can't turn it off.) Answer:

Is this the plastic cover that sits next to the door? (the rounded triangle piece) Mine has been loose for a while now, thats one of those things I keep meaning to fix and end up forgetting about it. I bought my car from Dimmitt but I haven't had any service performed there, only because I live 800 miles away though I met a few folks in their service department and they seemed nice enough. Icedog, Actually, it's a pretty smart call to draw the line at safety-related maintenance if you have even a shadow of doubt about doing everything 100% right. It's one thing to have a headlight bulb fail, but it's beyond the edge of pucker factor when the brakes aren't there when you need them Do the things you're comfortable with, and keep in mind that the majority of folks are doing 0% of their own work. Jim Answer:
Thanks for the reassurance that I should probably stay away from that stuff. The way I see it, saving a little now could cost me a whole lot later. I think I'm gonna stick to the little things. Again, thanks!

I also had the air filter replaced, 116Brake fluid 222 That makes the Saturday afternoon I spent jacking up the car flushing the bake and clutch fluid (using my EZ-Bleed ) and checking my air filter (it wasn't dirty enough to change) all worth while. No cost to me other than the bottle of brake fluid and the wear and tear on my body (gee, I'm getting old). I saved $336 minus the less than $10 for the fluid... Water in lamps.
