Air Filter
Question:
I have three questions regarding Elise air filter:

1. How long it take to replace the air filter element?
2. Is the OE air filter same as Celica GTS engine?
3. How aften should we replace it? ( the owner maintenance book says to inspect air cleaner @ 7,500M intervals, or as required. And renew it @ 30,000M).

Thanx for your help.

Answer:
1. Took me about 1.5hr mostly trying to close up the box
2. No, we share the same box from a Matrix xrs
3. Depends on conditions, mine was filthy after 3500miles
Answer:
List of filter numbers on the GGLC website in the "Parts" interchange section.

Part interchange info always accepted.

I have the K&N replacement panel filter, if you're interested. Brand new in the box for $35 + shipping.

Remember reading from a site member, with
tech knowledge directly in the area of things
like filters, that air filters with oil content (like
K&N) are not worth the slight gain in performance
since by exuding oil they affect areas that will
lessen long-term engine longevity.

I had a K&N in my MR2 Turbo and my Air Flow Meter went bad. The Toyota tech said the oil in the filter may have contributed to the AFM going bad...

I also heard that oil type air filter can permanetly damaged the Mass Airflow Sensor if you don't put proper amount of oil.

Thanks for reminder

Answer:
FWIW, I've been using K&N filters (successfully) in quite a few
motorcycles (Suzuki, Ducati) and autos (Alfas, Jeeps, Ford, ..).
Most of these were not F.I., so no mass flowmeter issues. Several
of the cars did have F.I. ('88 to '03), and none have had any performance
problems. I doubt that any improvement could be claimed (no dyno
tests for any of my stuff), but they sure beat tracking down expensive
OEM paper filters.
Regarding oiling this type of filter, a little goes a long way. Just apply
a narrow bead to the crest of each fold in the filter element (after thorough
cleaning / drying, of course), then let the filter stand for a day to allow the
oil to saturate the folds of the element. No excess oil, no worries.
Jim (And yes, there's a K&N in my Elise, and it's doing fine)

I was reading somewhere AEM is coming out with oil-less filters that filters better than the oiled ones, but I don't know if it fit our cars.

so whats to secret to closing the airbox? i opened mine to check my filter (4,500 miles and "sorta" dirty) went to put it back together... tried again, again... crap i cant get the slide end to slide in! guess i will resort to taking the wheel and liner off and try to get to it that way, also i tried to take the filter box end of the flex tube off, and i can't getthat apart rrrgrgrgrrrrr

anyways - it in the garage apart, guess i will get a new filter tomorrow, as long as i am going through all this i don't plan to go through again real soon!
Answer:
I can tell you what kept me from being able to close the box -- I had the filter upside-down.

The front-back is easy enough, but when the filter is in the correct orientation, the DENSO text is upside down. The two notches in the filter allow the lid to close. Otherwise it feels like it's not-quite-there.

I'd feel less stupid if someone else would say "me too".
