ForcedFed Sport275
Question:
Engineering a turbo package of the highest quality that is completely bolt on(no welding,no cutting,no extra equipment needed) and completely reversible(if an elise owner wanted to return the vehicle to stock) was our main concern.
Those are also my main concerns too. Why quibble over $3 or $4K when the cost of engine replacement as a result of a low budget job would cost possibly more?

Casey, do you have a demo car (you guys drive it -not me) available at your facility? Or will you around the time of June 11th? My plan is for my fiancee and I to take our honey moon in Northern Cal at that time so I could stop by and probably get a demo ride and maybe leave my Elise there. (Shhhh. She doesn't know the real reason why I picked Northern Cal vs. some boring cruise. ) Those are also my main concerns too. Our shop car has evolved a little further into a R380 which should be available for a spin in June. Has Autologic in Houston installed a FF kit yet? What? No comments?

Here is a question, which kit is more likely to pass a visual inspection by a tech not familiar with the engine bay of a lotus elise? I wasnt watching the thread hence no comments. Do I have any comments....well yes I do.
But I rather not.
Forcefed is a manufacturer of premier turbo kits for our cars. I in no way intend to try and smear there reputation over a internet argument with you.
They earn there lively hood building performance parts and put food on teh table for there famlies. I obviously dont agree with there product.

Thats all I have to say

gday will the kit pass smog check? i'm in CA. will the kit pass smog check? i'm in CA.
It technically is not CARB exempt. It will pass the sniffer and tailpipe test, but should not pass the visual test. However, there are likely a lot of smog techs that would not fail it on the visual test because it looks very OEM. Forcedfed has stated that they will seek CARB exemption for the turbo package.

I live in CA and currently have my car at Forcefed for a 275 Turbo install (car will be done on 3/31). Despite not being smog exempt, I went with this package because my next smog check is in 5 years and I likely will not own the car that long. However, if I did want to continue to own the car beyond 2011 (when my next smog check is required), and I was unable to find a smog station that would pass it on the visual test, I could always have Forcedfed remove the 275 kit and return the car to stock. The 275 kit is 100% bolt on and can be removed at any time. My guess is that I could find a smog station that would pass it on the visual test - most of them are not that careful.

If passing smog is the deciding factor in purchasing the 275 kit, you need to ask yourself how long you really plan to own the car. ... Forcedfed has stated that they will seek CARB exemption for the turbo package. ...
I have asked this question before, and Forcedfed stated that they would NOT seek CARB approval. Did they change their minds?

... If passing smog is the deciding factor in purchasing the 275 kit, you need to ask yourself how long you really plan to own the car. I plan on keeping mine 10 to 20 years, like I do all my cars. But, to make it feel new again, a forced induction package in a few years is a real possibility. But, I would need it CARB approved because I don't want to be pulling it off then putting it on repeatedly over the years. I'm sorry but what is CARB? California ______? california air resource board, they control the executive orders, exemptions and approvals for anything related to polution, emissions etc

anything on the car thats part of the emission chain has to be certified by CARB, changing anything requires an exemption, track only or reapproval. part of the smog check is a visual on CARB stickers too, theyre getting tougher, but there are a lot of smog places that are still not checking that well. I'm getting the kit if it gets the CARB stricker. It technically is not CARB exempt. It will pass the sniffer and tailpipe test, but should not pass the visual test. Don't forget the re-sale scenario--in CA the seller is responsible for ensuring that the car passes smog. No sale until it passes. A car "imported" into the state must also be smog checked prior to registration, even if it is eligible for the 5-year exemption. This is why we engineered the ForcedFed Sport 275 turbo package to be a truly 100% BOLT ON package, which means it is 100% reversible back to OEM configurations.

Regards,
John Ok,
I'm sure this has come up before and I just missed it but... I live in California. If I did the ForcedFed Turbo, would I have trouble getting past the smog test when it comes up? New cars in CA don't have to have a smog check for the first 6 years.

My question is, after the 6 years has passed, how often is the smog check required? Is it back to every two years after the first 6? (law subject to change without much notice, of course) Don't forget the re-sale scenario--in CA the seller is responsible for ensuring that the car passes smog. No sale until it passes. Yup. Thought through all of that before making my decision. If I sell the car with the turbo, I expect that it will be sold out of state (CA). Forcedfed could also pull the turbo off the car (returning it to stock) and I could sell the car (which would be smog legal) and the turbo separately. A separate sale of the smog legal car and turbo kit may be the best decision financially. I just want to make it fast as hell and drive it like a lunatic. Back to every two years after the first 6 have passed. Now that 9k seems a bit sky high...granted that I could probably make that kit myself for $3k without fuel/ecu which is really the heart of the kit since its not easily reproduced. But these prices are more then Japan Highend turbo companies such as HKS and ARC

I completed a home built daily driven turbo setup in my 97 maxima that made 400WHP for about 3000 dollars (granted, it used an FMU for fuel management, but it can be done...)
