Young Driver Risk
Question:

From what I remember reading, the national statistics indicate that younger drivers, I think it was below the age of 24, have the highest accident rates in the nation. Thats one of the main reasons why Insurance companies charge higher rates for younger drivers, especially if its a sports car. I'm 35 and I remember back in the late 80s and early 90s when the Insurance premiums on Camaros and Firebirds were extremely high for young drivers.
Like what 280ZXfan said, as you get older and mature your driving gets better.
I've had a few tickets and an accident mostly during my early days of driving, but now its definitely dropped off. I hope I don't get anymore, but you never know.
Of course there are those drivers that never change and are the exception. At the last driving school I went to, there was this guy who was 33 years old and he's had 27 moving violations. DAMN! Thats almost a ticket a year and I thought I was bad. With 27 violations, should your license be taken away? I felt much better after I heard that.

""i am only 18 but after 1 year in a 350Z with one accident and 3 tickets i have learned the street is not the place for me, and i have started autocrossing and will move on to road racing once i can afford to build me aa race car""

classic example of why people like myself get such a bad rep...there are some young people who arent idiots. got my 350 when I was 18(I am now 20) no tickets, no accidents, no street racing. Id say I drive my car pretty hard but Im safe about it. I dont do anythign too crazy but i have fun when and where it's appropriate.

I think i was involved in that debate and may have lost track of the original argument, I dont really think the system of higher insurance for younger drivers is bad, I think in the last argument i was just trying to make the point that there are plenty of negligent drivers regardless of age that cause accidents. But there isnt really an insurance "class" that bases people on how well their defensive driving skills are or how observant they are, if they talk on the phone etc etc....just wishfull thinking i guess

i'm young too 19... i've raced a few races mostly on empty streets...but a few on highways....amazingly its the times i'm not racing or being stupid is when i get tickets. just passing to get in a good position...they call it passing power for a reason... but i feel that i've calmed down alot since my first aquiring of my license...
i've had only a small fender bender with my civic but it was all my car's damage so i paid out of pocket...

im a young driver with no accidents and one ticket 111mph on a 55mph counrty road. im now 19 and been driving stuff sence i was 3 yrs old. every thing from four wheelers to dirt bikes, go carts and cars. ive always been able to beat my friends. ill admit that i drive away to fast to be safe. but i think on average young drivers are a bit more dangerous than normal. I may be a bit more skilled than average (along with other sports car owners)and lucky. but kids just generaly kids suck at driving. their judgement is a little risky, and when i say their i think im included but ive still had no accidents and have avoided people hitting me. but i think that drivers should all be made to learn critical driving skills like car control and emergiance desicion making skills all the way to tire placement on the road. that would help out general safty on the roads. but remeber exsperiance is some thing you cant teach.

There have been studies that suggest younger drivers lack the mental development allowing them to fully comprehend the consequences of their actions (invincible)
