chances are if they take it apart it will rattle even more once its put back together.

Exact same thing here. The round caps on both sides of the dash (one with the alarm LED) would crackle at times till I popped them out and wrapped some tape around them.

I think you guys are right. I've noticed that the noise is not only on the left side but also sometimes on the right (stereo!). If I reach forward and press on the little round cap, the noise stops. They look like they want to pop out, but I'm not sure the best way to do it without gouging the dash.
