A048 for track use (to shaved or not to shaved)
Question:
I know that the Elise with sport package come with A048 and seem like this is the place to ask since not too many non-Lotus driver have experience with that tires.

I am going to get the A048 MH compound, the tires will be use to drive to and from the event (about 20 miles each way), but will be strictly use for dry open track days (non-competitive use). I just want to know if I should shave them down to 3-4/32" or at 6/32", they are efficient that they won't chunk and overheat from open track use (hence similar to the full tread V700), and also if they are going to be heatcycle out before way before the tread are down then might as well shave them, but I do not know how long this tires last?

Forgot to mention this will be use on a pretty much stock S2000 so the weight is a little bit heavier than the Elise, also roughly how many track days/heatcycle do you guys get from the A048? Usually one track day for me is about 3-4 20 mins sessions (about 70-100 track miles) Any feedbacks or comments on the tires that I should know about? Thanks
Answer:
I'm going out on a limb with this question, because I own both a S2000 and a S1 Exige.

I'm thinking that the experience of the 48's on a S2000 and that of an Exige will not be anything alike. S2000's eat up tires at the track because they weigh much more (1000lbs more than my Exige and 700lbs more than a Fed car). My 48's heat cycle to death before there are any tread depth issues. That said, I probably use my 48's for about 15 track days and that's because I'm cheap and don't want to replace them. The car still works, just not as fast.
