Advan pricing
Question:
I was just looking here... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....VAN+Neova+AD07

and noticed there are two listings for the tour pack rear tire. That is the 225/45 r17. One says "Lotus" next to it and costs extra but there is no explenation for the higher price. Anyone know why that might be?

There's a Lotus-specific version of the tire (has LTS stamped on the sidewall) that is somewhat lighter and was developed to work a little better with our cars.

Sure...Lotus and Yokohama worked together on this tire for our cars. The LTS version has a different construction and possibly compounding. For example, on the Elise, the 225/45/17 will be in the back of a rear heavy mid-engine car, and will do no steering, and will transmit all of the power.

Most likely Lotus was provided with a few different versions of the tire...and then they drove the car in various ways and then requested tires that did one thing like #4 and the other thing more like #7 and soften/harden the compound. After a few iterations and many more and varied tests, a good Match was achieved. Lotus also finalized the settings of the coil over suspension knowing which tires would be in use. In that way they can try to get as much good and as little bad as possible.
Answer:
SO it's posable you will go thru tires faster with a difrent tire?
compound maybe to soft?
Dont know much about the tires..
Total: $788.00 not tobad though..

At $619 for an oil change, $788 for tires is a great deal!
Answer:
SO it's possible you will go thru tires faster with a different tire? Or maybe drastically change the handling... Or maybe only slightly, but only at times when you don't want a change (on the cornering limit)?...

Symbolic is giving me a pretty decent deal. I am going to get them on Monday during my 20k checkup. I've had a hell of a lot of fun leaving little pieces of the old ones all around southern california. Most of it with the top off. I had to say that just for the elise 6 month hibernators in those cold places of the world.

Answer:
Are the Lotus OEM Advan tires 'corner-specific' also? I know they are unidirectional. Corner-specific is an added bias in the sidewall that improves tire grip/handling by pushing the tires inward; due to this, tires can't be swapped side-to-side.

Usually when a particular tire brand has a version for a specific application (Lotus), and a version that is for unspecified cars... it's usually corner-specific. This was the case w/ the Advan A022H & Bridgestone RE040 tires, being for the NSX.
Answer:
The AO48's are symmetrical tires (one side/half is a mirror image of the other) both in tread design and sidewall, so I see no reason why the left front couldn't be exchanged for the right front and same for the rears. I'm planning on doing this to even the wear and hopefully get more than 8,000 miles on them.

More than 8,000 miles If you can do 8,000 on a set I will be amazed The best I ever managed was 4,200 and that was the first set while I was breaking the car in

Yes, but you have yet to discover that the car has a low cam too.

If his wife is so used to his style of driving that she can take a nap in an elise at 130mph then I'd say the above statement is absolutely correct and nobody should measure their tire wear compared to Patrick's
