Strut Bar Question???
Question:
But of course, first I wanted to know what benefits will i derive from this gastusin.... :D Answer: Strut bars makes n helps ur ride more stabilized on the road . makes the chassis more rigid and strong . Answer: It lessens the flex of the body structure of the car. Kasi kapag sobrang hard cornering, the mounting points of the suspension (which is the monocoque structure) tends to flex. Flex can lead to poor tire contact during these situations resulting in ill handling. That's why nilalagay ang strutbar to minimize flex. Siyempre during extreme driving lang iyon. The rest of the time, it just makes your car look cooler. hehehe. Answer: ...the flexing of the body structure can also lead to cracked windshield windows. The last time I went to a Canyon Run with my fella Suby owners, I can hear my windshield flexing as we take the hard turns in Angeles Crest Highway. Also, I believe a stiffer swaybar will give you a better handling benefits than the strut bar. In addition, you can barely notice a difference kung strut tower bar lang ang ilalagay mo. Depending on your car din kung which (front or rear muna) ang uunahin mong ilagay na stru tower bar. Why? yung strut top kse ng Suby ko malapit sa Firewall ng chassis so yung firewall is acting as an aid for chassis stiffness. For Honda? I think front strut bar muna dahil masyadong malayo sa firewall yung strut top. If you are just gonna throw on a front strut tower bar and nothing else(good tires won't even matter) you most likely will feel nothing. You'd be just a person showing off an"eye candy". If other aspects of susp. have already been addressed, then this will "TIE" things up nice. Other aspects of Suspension Package that I have: Whiteline Front Strut Bar Whiteline Rear Strut Bar Whiteline adjustable 22-24mm rear swaybar Whiteline Heavy-duty rear swaybar bracket Whiteline heavy-duty rear swaybar mount MRT Alloy rear endlinks TEIN Super Street full coil-over suspension Answer: TEIN Super Street full coil-over suspension inggit ako ehehe :D Answer: Sir Otep at Boss Karding which of these kaya ang uunahin ko... Yung front or rear strut bar???? BTW my ride is a 95 corolla kasi every day I negotiate this downward sloping sharp curve on my way to the office and at this point I have to decelerate from 90+ to 40 or something kasi parang tumilapon ako pakanan.... nauunahan tuloy ako ng mga opis mates ko..... ok pa naman ang under chassis na ride ko... pati suspension.... will a front and rear strut bar solve the problem???? One more thing saan ba inilagay itong rear strut bar??? They will have to cut a slit in your carpeting. Answer: do you guys reco to put a rear strut bar na rin? Answer: kung hindi kumakarera, hindi ko recommend maglagay ng rear..sa harap nalang para maporma :) my opinion po Answer: Sir Otep at Boss Karding which of these kaya ang uunahin ko... One more thing saan ba inilagay itong rear strut bar??? Dial-in more negative upfront than the rear (I have -1.5 Front and -0.75 rear.) You can also increase the front tire psi in 2.5 increments and reduce the rear. Maraming ways to reduce and increase understeer/oversteer. Eto ang guidelines, some of this may be applicable to your car. Kasi ang front ko is Softer than the rear. TO REDUCE UNDERSTEER or INCREASE OVERSTEER: Front tires: - Increase tire pressure in 2.5psi increments - Increase Section Width - Lower the Aspect Ratio - Reduce front tread depth Rear Tires: - Reduce tire pressure in 2.5psi increments - Reduce section width - Install higher aspect ratio tires - Increase rear tread depth Front Wheels: - Install wider wheels - Install lighter wheels Rear Wheels: - Install narrower wheels - Install heavier wheels Front Alignment settings: - Dial in more negative camber - Dial in More toe-out - Dial in more positive caster Rear Alignment settings: - Dial in more positive camber - Dial in more toe-out (Same as front) Anti-Sway bars: - Soften the Front - Stiffen the Rear Spring rates: - Soften the Front - Stiffen the Rear Shock absorbers: - Soften the Front - Stiffen the Rear Suspension Bushings: - Soften the Front - Stiffen the Rear Brake Proportioning - Reduce Front brake pressure - Increase rear pressure Weight Distribution - Reduce front weight - Increase rear weight Aerodynamics: - Increase Front Downforce - Reduce rear downforce --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TO REDUCE OVERSTEER or INCREASE UNDERSTEER: Front tires: - Decrease tire pressure in 2.5psi increments - Decrease Section Width - Install higher Aspect Ratio tires - Increase front tread depth Rear Tires: - Increase tire pressure in 2.5psi increments - Increase section width - Reduce aspect ratio - Decrease rear tread depth Front Wheels: - Install narrower wheels - Install heavier wheels Rear Wheels: - Install wider wheels - Install lighter wheels Front Alignment settings: - Dial in less negative camber - Dial in less toe-out (to toe-in if needed) - Dial in less positive caster Rear Alignment settings: - Dial in less positive camber - Dial in less toe-out (Same as front) Anti-Sway bars: - Stiffen the Front - Soften the Rear Spring rates: - Stiffen the Front - Soften the Rear Shock absorbers: - Stiffen the Front - Soften the Rear Suspension Bushings: - Stiffen the Front - Soften the Rear Brake Proportioning - Increase Front brake pressure - Reduce rear brake pressure Weight Distribution - Increase front weight - Decrease rear weight Aerodynamics: - Reduce Front Downforce - Increase rear downforce Answer: More and more aftermarket manufacturers are making a 3-point strut tower bars. Rear strut bar merong lower and upper, same thing as front strut bar. On my previous Integra, rear lower and front upper lang meron ako. Wala pa akong pakialam sa suspension and handling noon, hehehe. Front Strut Bar Pictures: http://www.pbase.com/roowagon/whiteline_fstb Other Suspension Components: anjan din yung pic ng Rear Strut Bar ko http://www.pbase.com/wrxplosive/suspension_stuff baiskee, if you have a spare change, then put on the rear strut bar. Afterall, its part of the whole suspension package(mentioned earlier in my post.) And as I've said earlier too, depende sa car mo kung rear or front muna ang uunahin. strongly suggest getting a stiffer swaybar (adjustable preferred!) before getting the strut bars. In additition to my alignment settings: this is a medium setting for my car: 0 toe front and rear -1.00 camber front -0.75 camber rear Why more negative on front?? Which ever end of the vehicle you want to have stick better to the road should get more negative camber within reason. Hence, if you want less understeer, less negative camber in the rear and more in the front; if the car oversteers more than you like, you put more negative camber on the rear and less on the fronts. why less negative camber on my rear??? I already have a stiffer settings on my rear due to my adj. 22-24mm swaybar, endlinks, etc. to compensate or balance the front and rear settings. My friend's Subaru on the other hand is completely stock in suspension aside from lowering springs and a sticky 225/45/17 rubber. I advised him to have more negative on the rear. his settings are: -1.00 front -1.50 rear 0 toe front n rear. There's too much info about suspension and a few people bothers to tune their suspension. I've seen a 1995 VW Golf take a turn at highspeed and you'll be amazed how in the world was he able to make that turn as if there were no turns at all. I used to think all we need is to go fast. But will your car handle the way you want it in-case of emergency manuevering or turns because you have a powerful engine and you were going so fast? I dont race professionally, I do canyon runs, and I love making turns, at high speeds. You really dump a ton of helpful information in here..... Now I have a clear idea of what to do next..... Maraming salamat po sir.... More power to forum mods and contributors... Answer: mga tol, may kilala ba kayong nagfafabricate ng struts? yung tipong ikaw magbibigay ng gusto mong porma tapos gagawin nila? Answer: mga tol, may kilala ba kayong nagfafabricate ng struts? yung tipong ikaw magbibigay ng gusto mong porma tapos gagawin nila? ...hmmm, try mo sa mga gumagawa ng gate, o sa mga nagbebenta (shop) ng mga bakal (yung magandang shop na pang bakal ha,.. hindi junks ) I've heard na merong nagpafabricate nun sa EG civic (noh, serious!) pure bakal ha, custom-made, tamang sukat, no adjustments, (like the stock TRD Sports ng big body Corolla) yung ibang strut bar kasi na-aadjust (i.e. bolts, may roskas etc) Try mo bro, baka sakali,. make sure tama ang sukat nila ha! hehe! Answer: Just another question from noob.. Im just a daily driver never tried racing but I sometimes push my car to its near limits on long clear roads I negotiate also winding canyon roads.. but still cant understand whats understeer or oversteer?:twak2: Answer: Oversteer, for the given steering input, sobra yung response. Answer: Thanks sir Otep. based on your explanation may understeer pala ung vios ko kaysa frontier.... a swaybar or struts can make a difference? a four point strut is better than 2 points lang? Answer: Understeer is common to front drivers. Understeer is easier for newbie drivers to handle. As for the bars making a difference, antayin na lang natin ang sagot. hehehe. All things being equal, 4pt should be better than 2pt. Of course there are other factors like the quality of the bar, metal used, quality of mounting, etc. Answer: Hmmmm... not sure about the Vios, but it sure helps on the Lynx. It helped on the Sentra, too... gave a little extra stiffness to the front end... slim, but still noticeable. A better solution would be tires. A front strutbar isn't the magic cure for understeer, but it does help handling. In the case of the Vios, though, the understeer is naturally built in because of the torsion beam rear suspension, which limits camber adjustability... even in the TRD turbocharged Vios, with its stiffer suspension, testers report lots of understeer. One good cover-up for understeer? Tires. Put great tires on any front driver and it will help reduce understeer. Copyright ? 2006 - 2008 www.TendCar.com
