What to do with my new iron block??
G8 in Autoweek?
wheel suggestions?
My 112HH is tuned?
What to do with my new iron block?

Ok so I just picked up a 6.0 liter iron block and im wanting some advice from you guys. Should I go stroker? Should I go stock cubes?
The plan is to jump up to a T76 turbo soon, so what in yalls opinion will be the best bet?
is it new or a "seasoned" block?
In either case I would go with the 4.0 crank of your choice and some good rods.
To me Bore would be dependant on whether new or used block. Used block definately .030 over make a nice 408. If new, keep the bore to a minimum to allow for a second go around cylinder cleanup to a bore of your choice. JMO of course....congrats on your purchase.
Slightly seasoned, got it for a steal. Free to be exact lol.
I would go with a 408ci Turbo.....or maybe twins :)
G8 in Autoweek

Nov 26 issue says G8 is a Scary Sedan. One small mention of GTO.
What is up with dislike for our cars??
We have 2 doors, stick shift, and 38 more HP, and should get more respect!
Our GTOs are considered to be an epic marketing failure.
cause GTO's are big POS's......durr, they lost to a frickin mustang GT even though it outperformed it in every category but the infamous "gotta have it" factor.
cause GTO's are big POS's......durr, they lost to a frickin mustang GT even though it outperformed it in every category but the infamous "gotta have it" factor. That's right. You can't argue with that, because after all, it was printed in the pages of Car and Driver.
**** em all. We know how good our cars are, and so does everyone who gets their asses handed to them by a GTO. And how about all those people and especially kids that point and admire our GTO's? I always throw them a rev when I catch them.
Marketing failure? According to those suits, maybe. But marketing can't show how giddy I was everytime I started up my Goat. It felt like Christmas day for 3 years.
Don't believe everything you read. I LOVE this car!

Don't believe everything you read. I LOVE this car! Very Well Said!!! I love this car.:hail:
What is up with dislike for our cars? I think had they just brought it over here and called it the Pontiac Monaro, it would've sold like hot cakes. You throw a badge with tons of history behind it on a car with none (over here). The Monaro could've really been something over here.
Car and Driver , gave the mustang " gotta have it factor"

The Monaro could've really been something over here. That is 100 percent the truth. I really believe if they would have not put the GTO badge on it and left it a monaro people would have respected it more. Instead of looking at it as a non retro muscle car they would have looked at it as a 400 hp irs, having great interior, having pontiac car that doesn't stand out to much and is not over the top. Instead its just a non retro boring looking muscle car that cant launch.
Oh yeah we should be happy about all the positive feedback by magazines and just people in general about the g8 maybe it will do really well!
I disagree with the Monaro label senerio. GM just picked the wrong year model to emulate with the GTO. If they had chosen an earlier year model as they have with the styling of the new Camaro it would have sold better.
Car and Driver , gave the mustang " gotta have it factor" is there an echo in here? :bunny:
quack.......nope
GM marketing just doesn't get it...you can't put a car like the GTO out there and just forget about it....about the only marketing they do is Caddy's and Buicks....lol.....and now finally the new Malibu

They should have had Tiger Woods market the goat like he did for that automotive abomination: The Buick Lacrosse!
Ha! They should have had Tiger Woods market the goat like he did for that automotive abomination: The Buick Lacrosse! yes..."THE LONG DRIVE"....because you just can't get out of the vehicle....:p
yes..."THE LONG DRIVE"....because you just can't get out of the vehicle....:p And isn't it just a re-badged Pontiac Aztek? :barf:
My idea for GTO marketing: Show a ten second clip of Australian V8 cup racing with a Monaro or two sliding past a Oz-ford turdstang. Tag line "The hottest V8 coupe in Australia is available at your Pontiac dealer. Introducing the Corvette powered Monaro SS"
Instead we got no press. I don't think anyone at work even knew what a GTO was until I bought a left over.
oh well, I like it, **** everybody else.
R.
And isn't it just a re-badged Pontiac Aztek? :barf: I think you are thinking of the Buick Rondezvous. (I can't spell...sigh)

R. I would have liked to have a Monaro SS. And yeah, we would have probably seen better numbers if it didn't have the GTO badge on it. It just wasn't yet the GTO's time I guess. Me, I'm happy I don't have a retro looking car. It's a very subtle car that only a few people know of when they see it. The other day someone walked up to me and said, "What did you put in that lumina? It sounds mean as hell!" I'm thinking wow, there are still people that know nothing about this car or even that it existed. I feel lucky to have one of the best all around cars on the road. And my TA never got the looks that this thing does.
Did you notice the direction this thread went? Lol, I forgot it was about the G8!
just got home and just got my Autoweek... have to read it soon. as for our cars... don't care about the press
It has been a full week and I have not seen another GTO... I like having a rare bread... guy in a red mustang tried to play with me on 66 today... that was fun... my daughter say... go fast daddy
I don't think anyone at work even knew what a GTO was until I bought a left over.

R. +1 to that. Took my car to Les schwabs to look at some rims, the guy insisted on telling me my car was a FWD V6... dumb ****s.
Is this the article?

Be happy they didn't sell many of them. Makes it a unique car. That's why I don't like mustangs and fbodies. Too damn many of them on the road.
Ha! They should have had Tiger Woods market the goat like he did for that automotive abomination: The Buick Lacrosse!
I am buying the Old Lady a Buick Enclave. I never thought I would buying a Buick at 29 Years Old. LOL Nicest SUV out. $38,000 and change
We had an H3 and it was really nice. The staright 5 is a little weak but everything else was great. I was thinking about getting her an H3 Alpha but I am a nut swinger when it comes to the Enclave.
I am set on getting one of these (Enclave/Acadia/Outlook/Chevy variant) for the fam as well. I think I'll wait to see what V8 they put in it.

Lucky you!

As long as it's not related to the Aztek, you have my blessing!

Since your from IL I'll try to help.
Before they flame you!

My 112HH is tuned

Just got back from Wong's Performance in Vancouver, Wa. Thomas dyno tuned my car with a mustang dyno and HP Tuners, Magnusens tune was lean and a little advance on the timing. My final numbers were 476 HP 420 lb of torque and 8.9 psi boost. All stock except the maggie.... Can't wait till spring....
Congrats on your numbers and on being blown.
cam and longtubes take it to 525 rwhp
Maybe headers in the future otherwise i'm done.
Maybe headers in the future otherwise i'm done. LOL I tell my wife that 1 time a week!!!!!
Nice results!!! Welcome to the Blown Goat herd
wow, very nice!
hello 11's
Cool!!! Did you get a copy of tune? .HPT file, what does your PE look like?
Those are great numbers off a Mustang dyno. Nice work!
You definitely chose the right path for getting blown Grasshopper. Enjoy!
damn, mustang dyno and through a A4. I wonder what it would be through a M6 and on a dynojet

Do it and find out :slap: I second that motion, lol
Thanks for the replies, of course it's snowing now so the cars staying in the garage. My tuner changed the low octane tables he said the canned tune high table was copied and pasted to the low table which would have been bad if I got a bad tank of gas or ?
Congrats Don!!!
Hopefully we can get together in Yakima again next summer. I'd love to see that thing run - should be hell of a lot of fun.
Untill then, take it easy.
Gary
damn i need to buy a goat soon:(
damn i need to buy a goat soon:( I don't know who she is but I want her to have my babies...And if she is somehow your significant other than I would love to shake your hand.
Omg!!!

That boost seems much more "inline" with what should be expected, versus Wm Holden's ~7.5psi on the same setup. You may actually be able to pick up some torque by going with a larger 3.2" pulley and adding back some timing. This is strictly an educated guess without seeing your data, of course. But that's a lot of boost to be running on an otherwise completely stock setup.
BTW, great peak HP #s !!
yeah my significant other lol, thats raven riley, just saw the avatar...she is deffinitly a hottie

If I install a set of Kook's won't that lower my boost?
I think the cam will lower the boost for sure...
Don B> If you swap to LT's it will lower your boost but that does not mean you will make less power. The more you free up the air flow in and out of the motor WILL lower your boost. Boost is not a measure of "Power". It is just a measure of how much intake charge is NOT getting into and out of your cylinders. A good example is my car. I am only making 5.5 lbs of boost but am also making 590 HP at the wheels.

Wm Holden, thanks for your help during my setup. You may want to have your tune looked at, my tune was real lean and the timing was a little advance. One bad thing was the high octane table was copied to the low octane table not allowing the motor to protect itself :nono:.
Congrats Don!!!

Gary Yep, I can't wait! So I got mine, where's yours?
I am only making 5.5 lbs of boost but am also making 590 HP at the wheels. 590HP at the wheels with a Maggie set-up?? Wow... what else did you do?
If I install a set of Kook's won't that lower my boost? Lowered boost is a good thing. More air is making it into the cylinders instead of backing up in the intake manifold.
cam and longtubes take it to 525 rwhp Not safe without improving the fuel system.
