Weird noise from cold start up! help!
I noticed lately I been getting a weird noise when I start the car up. This is from a cold start...it started about a week ago.. I let the car sit in the driveway for about three days and at mild angle. When I went to start it I heard a noise coming from the engine on the right side of the bay. I cannot pinpoint exsactly what is making it as it goes away after the engine warms up. Is this normal? anyone else experiance this in mildly cold 54 degree ish weather? I tried parking on a level surface and it makes the same noise sounds like metal clanking.. also sounds like its coming from the heads? its not a damaged valve spring because that would continue to tick after warm up... I checked my oil level and it seems right.. I last changed the oil at 17,000 miles and its now aproaching 22,000. So It cant be that? could it be piston slap? I never heard it before but read things...help me out guys..little worried. I'd try changing the oil and if that doesn't help take it into the shop for inspection. The cold makes all the pulley bearings stiff and they make noise when the motor first starts. I think all the LSx series motors make noise at startup. At least all of mine have. I wouldn't worry about it. Although, its definitely time to change that oil. Possible exhaust manifold leak??? Might be sealing up the leak once it warms up and expands slightly. I had a noise similar to what you are describing. I found some loose bolts on the headers to midpipe connection (kook LT to catted mids).Once the engine warmed up the metal expanded and the noise would go away. I tightend them up and problem went away. what viscosity oil are you running and what has the temp been in your area?? LS1 always make more noise on startup, but it would fade after a minute or so. Maybe a bent/worn pushrod?
Shift Knob
I kinda want to change the stocker out for either a c6 knob or a hurst ball. To anyone that has done this, how much money are we talking about and how difficult is the install? First move would be get a lou's short stick and add a ball.... <---- afterthoughts auto is the sponsor where you can get the goods why the short stick? Because the stock shaft is press-on, it's not threaded. You need a threaded shaft to go aftermarket. Besides, the LSS is an excellent addition anyway, makes the shifter feel much better with easier shifts.
FRC's redone!! How about now??
Hello all! Thanks to all who gave their input on the FRC's I had done after my radiator cover. It was a bit much with the entire FRC done in flames. Well, I got them back today and I am loving it!! He did the recessed area in a silver marbleized paint. Looks outstanding and did a great job of breaking up the flames!! What do you guys and gals think?? As soon as the catch can is added, the engine bay will be complete!! :bubbrub 1,000,000 times better. Loks beautiful man :) Looking Good... Nice! What type of battery is that? Did you just buy a cover for it? Very nice, soooo much better. Looks better Have "GTO" be silver Dude, I love it. That is a great look you have going there now. Nice! What type of battery is that? Did you just buy a cover for it? Its just the stock AC Delco battery. I pulled off the white sticker that was on it, and put two strips of aluminum aircraft tape over the small covers on top, thats it. Very nice! Good job. Mike that looks perfect now! Very nice work. I would suggest a red top Optima battery. Very nice work. I would suggest a red top Optima battery. Where can I pick up one of those?? I think that would look sweet too!! Where can I pick up one of those?? I think that would look sweet too!! I know Jegs and Summit Racing carry them http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=400089 http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...rchTerm=optima Where can I pick up one of those?? I think that would look sweet too!! Advanced Auto parts also has them in store. Im not sure we have an Advance auto here... Ill have to check it out.... Your engine bay looks sweet. Love it. I got my RedTop just the other day. Ordered from http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/, $149 shipped to my door. I couldn't find the right model locally and they were by far cheaper than the stores anyways. You need the Group 35 battery. I made a thread about it in the Stereo section.
headlights
anyone tried putting in those sylvania super star headlights in their goat yet? just seeing of they might be worth it for getting the headlights just a little brighter short of going full HID. I have not tried in the GTO but i did in my 95 chevy....I was less than impressed. They are better than stock but not much brighter....I think it may be the lenses in the truck though...I do like the color of the light though, much better. Have you found any silverstars in an H9 or H11? Have you found any silverstars in an H9 or H11? I looked on the website and then just googled Silverstar H11 and came up with a supplier. In these United States? Nope, sorry to get your hopes up. I searched right before turning the computer off at work and I could've sworn I saw a store stocking them. I searched again and found some forum for the rx8 and the ford escape from 2004 that talk about them not being available yet. Mainly because the DOT has not approved them. However, they also said that Osram can petition the DOT to have the ruling changed. I think you can get the H11 low beams from the UK (at a ridiculously high price), but not here in the US :( The Silverstars aren't all that anyway. They're more about marketing hype than actual lighting performance, as is the case with any of the blue-coated "superwhite" bulbs. They also are known to burn out after a relatively short time of use. A better option is to do the "H9 mod" and use a set of H9 bulbs in the low beams. You can try this for free by modifying your high beam bulbs and swapping them with the lows. The mod consists of merely cutting off the tab inside the connector on the bulb so it will then fit into the H11 plug. If you like the results you can then get another set of H9 bulbs. You don't need any fancy aftermarket ones, just stock spec ones. H9's are 65W/2100 lumens vs. 55W/1350 lumens for the H11's. It's a significant difference.
