New GTO owner needs help
I recently bought a 04 M6 GTO because it was a steal of a deal and i honestly dont think i can get a better car for the money; it does have a few quirks though.... My passenger front wheel seems to rub only after the car has been sitting for a while (>30min) and it only seems to do it on the initial take-off. I have done some reading on this forum and found that the top strut bushings can go bad due to the shipping process, so i took it to the dealer and after they messed with the car for nearly 2 weeks they replaced the upper bushings on both sides that were indeed flattened. I was pretty happy for about 30 minutes until i made a pit stop on the way home from the dealer and found that the car is still making the same rubbing noise... The car only does it when i let the clutch fully and the suspension moves, the car makes the noise once and then it seems to be quiet for the rest of the trip is there anything else that could be causing this problem? do i need to go to a 235 tire? sagging spring? bad strut? Man i am glad this thing has a warranty any help would be appreciated First quick thing would be to check the tire pressure. Check two things: Tire pressure and the alignment. The camber setting may be off. I recently bought a 04 M6 GTO because it was a steal of a deal and i honestly dont think i can get a better car for the money; it does have a few quirks though.... Thanks for all of the helpful advice guys! My tire pressure is good and the shop did an allignment when they replaced the bushings so I guess that really only leaves shocks / struts The car has 65k on it currently, i will give the dealership a call and see what they will do this time around Thanks for all of the helpful advice guys! You need to do the following and report back: 1. give us the before and after alignment specs 2. On a very level ground, measure the diestance between the fender opening and the bottom lip of the wheel, thru the center. Be accurate with this, and do it to all 4 wheels and report. 4. Do the stop test by having someone drive the GTO 5-10mph and stop hard when you can see the front wheel, then repeat on the other side. Note if you have any wheel kick back and report. You should take it back to the dealer and roadtest with them so they can hear the noise has you hear it mike dms
2004 stock muffler restrictive?
anyone know if its the mufflers that are restrictive or combination of piping with muffler. i have cam and headers , nothing radical , but car is loud under wot with magnaflows. was going to experiment with the stock 04 mufflers . i know im ill be doing 2.5 inch to 2.25 in and out of muffler to 2.5 inch again. any thoughts ?? It's the size of the piping. It gets down to 2" near the rear. Stock mufflers are straight through design. I'm plenty happy with the sound of the stock cat-back on my car. I'm not sure how restrictive it really is though. Since selling the Corsa and putting the stock cat back on, I really like the sound. What I'm thinking is doing 2.5" all the way but keeping the stock mufflers. Probably open up the inlet and outlet to 2.5" so there is no neck down. Just have to get a price to see if its all worth it. if you do a search for what the mufflers look on the inside, you'll see it's just a perferated pipe all the way through the muffler, w/o baffles.. so as far as flow goes, i can't imagine it's horrible. sure kills the sound a lot though well i put the stock 04 muffs in , slp headers (not long tubes), high flow cat, hpipe, stock mufflers 04 , then split pipes to mgnaflow 3.5 x 5.5 double wall tips. the sound and low end punch is incredible. unfortunatley when it goes into overdrive(A4) i get drone again. m@#% f#$#%!!! some have suggested and i will , stick 2 glasspack as resonators in the 05 rear location and that should kill the drone, but will quiet my exhaust little more which will suck , as it sounds awesome. performance im told will not be lacking, not sure what else to do but live with it, and it resonates thru my car too, all at 2000 rpm or so . if you do a search for what the mufflers look on the inside, you'll see it's just a perferated pipe all the way through the muffler, w/o baffles.. so as far as flow goes, i can't imagine it's horrible. sure kills the sound a lot though I have the stock 04 catback with pacesetters and catless mids, and it is LOUD! They may "kill" the sound a little, but if it were any louder, I'd have to wear ear plugs... So yeah, the stock catback can be loud... But I can't really say how restrictive it is... with cutouts open I gained 10HP on the dyno. 3" longtubes hooked up to the stock 04 catback. The only restriction in the stock system has to be in the piping where they smash crimp the pipe for fitment reasons. with cutouts open I gained 10HP on the dyno. 3" longtubes hooked up to the stock 04 catback. That's pretty amazing! I ran the stock catback when I was NA with great results, but figured I would need additional flow with FI so I went with Magnaflow. I really like the factory '04 sound, though. I love the 04 sound too. With headers and cats its perfect. Without cats, its a little too loud for me. My 402 gains near 40 with the cuts open. We were stunned at the dyno. The factory catback doesn't hold me down until over 5k rpm, and if for some reason I am going over that (rare), I open the cuts. Stock catback on 11.9 to 1 NA, SW LTs, no cats. Sounds so incredible I can't bear to go to a 3" catback. I'm doing Kooks SS w/cats to stock 04 exhaust to see how it sounds. GM actually did a great job on tuning the sound of the 04 exhaust. I'll post a sound clip up when I get around to the install. Simon, I can't wait to show off these headers at CP. Too bad the weather's gonna suck the next 3 months . yea fern they will rock, problem with the 04 cat back is the pipe diameter is very restictive. the mufflers are cool. im running the 04 mufflers with 2.5 inch piping and i get drone. lol. i hope its allcured tomorrow. I've got straight pipe, no cats, no mufflers, and pacesetters.... Its way too loud I'll be putting the 04 mufflers back in the car soon.... They are not restrictive at all, if I recall correctly they were actually manufactured by an well known after market muffler company (magnaflow or flowmaster, i cant remember). Some body help me out on that? ok fellas resonators in 05 spot now, running headers with hpipe, 04 muffs and split to 05 look. exhaust is quieter than before , actually sounds stock at idle, i have a cam and you cant hear it, wot she roars very nicely i must admit. and the best part, no fn drone. smoot acceleration thru the power band. if i find it to be too quiet ill just put magnaflows back in, but for now, ill let the resonators break in a bit and enjoy the mellow tone. i currently have the Borla split dual CB on mine...actually, i like the sound of the oem muffs better....i may yet put the oem mids with mufflers back on and rout the split pipes to them.... 04 muffs sound great in my opinion. i love my set up now . Congrats Simon. Its nice when you are finally satisfied with your set-up with no comprimises. Can't wait till spring then we can play at the track. hey fern, yes i think you will love it when you hear it , when i get on it, it brings out the stock tone but louder, not loud enough to be annoying but you hear it .fern you should really consider have 2.5 inch pipes coming in/out of your mufflers like i have. when I removed my stocks and put them beside the magnaflows they looked the exact same on the inside. The magnaflows were a little bigger in diameter, and better constructed but overall they were the same. Hate to ask a dumb question but when I get my Kooks SS headers and catted mids should I just use same exhaust from there back?

Im interested, although im yet to break one, i always sweep my car out at home with a small vac, and take my time. I think the biggest problem is when you rest your foot on the floor and the pressure of your pushing forward causes the carpet to move forward at the same time there for breaking the clip. Vibration In 5th Gear
My Gto Is A 05 The Car Has A Vibration From The Rear End Between 50 And 70 Mph In 5th Gear Under A Load(only When Accerating)the Car Only Has 14500 Miles And Is Under Gm Warranty Im Pretty Sure Its Coming From The Halfshafts The Dealer Is Telling Me That My Corsa Exhaust Is Causing The Vibration I Think Thats A Bunch Of Bull Has Anyone Else Expierence A Vibration In 5th Gear? I have the same exact issue and I'm pretty sure it's not the exhaust system. I'm guessing it's either the CV parts or the driveline. I'm going to take it in to the dealer next week and let them look it over, so I hope they don't give me the same BS store you are getting.
Intake and TB Porting Christmas Special
Hello everyone. We had such a great response with our last sale and we know through the holidays modding becomes a little tougher, this sale will go through the end of December. We typically charge $300 for the intake manifold porting and $150 for the TB. When done together we charge $400 From today through December 31, we will be offering special pricing of $250 for the intake manifold and $125 for the TB. If you have both of these done together, the price will be $325. If you are not local, these prices include shipping within the 48 states. The average gain for the intake manifold is 11rwhp/13rwtq. We have done over 200 LS2 intake manifolds and over 100 TB's. When porting the TB you will see greatly improved throttle response and bottom end/mid range seat of the pants gain. We do also port LSX manifolds, pricing is typically $350. Through Dec 31st we will also be porting these for $275. Thank you Shalane Formato 813-476-7364 www.fasterproms.net WOW heck of a deal there!! Quick question, I know with the LS2 manifold porting is quite popular. However I am wondering if you recommend getting an ls6 manifold ported for an ls1? WOW heck of a deal there!! Quick question, I know with the LS2 manifold porting is quite popular. However I am wondering if you recommend getting an ls6 manifold ported for an ls1? I am also interested to see if there are any gains to be had with porting the ls6 mani. Oh and this would be for a car with a big AZPS cam etc. Good deal for sure..Too bad mine is still bolted on the car or else id get it done.lol Unfortunately there really isn't any gains when you port the LS6 manifold. The LS2/LS7 manifolds are 3 piece manifolds that have a lot of extra material left inside them restricting air flow. The LS6 manifolds are not made this way.
