Volant Installed on an 04!!!!! Check It Out!!!!

---Well, I took the chance and got the volant and installed it on my 04 even though they were meant for the 05/06. Install was actually fairly simple, as I was told that it would not fit and I would need to relocate a part or two. Which in fact I didn't end up having to do at all!
---The coolant reservoir had to be pulled back, and the heat shield had to be removed from the front of the ECU/ECM whatever you may call it, lol. Then, the two bolts holding the ECM in have to be removed, then push the computer back towards the firewall. This enables you to easily slide the intake box down into place. It is only possible to get the rear(closest to firewall) bolt back in, however it holds well, as the box holds the front bracket back. I then reinstalled the heat shield with no problems. I also had to drill a small hole to fit the intake temp sensor back into the tube. From there, it was all gravy. So for those of you other 2004 owners, the volant will fit with a little custom work!!!
Looks cool. Good job. For a minute I thaught you didnt install the heat shield but I saw in the pic you put it back. The Volant would definately not be worth melting the ECU. Also, that big hose from the coolant tank, how close is it to the header? From the pics it looks really close.
Just the angle of the picture.. There is about 5-6 inches between the main hose and the header.
It's really annoying without resizing the pics. The pics are so wide, the text goes off to the right, and you have to scroll over just to read what somewhat wrote. More PITA than it's worth...see if you can resize the pics.
Otherwise, good job! What all did you have to do for fabriation, that's not the norm? You mentioned some stuff in your first post, but a summary would be nice.
From what I gathered:
Took stuff off
Put box in
Put stuff back
Done.
sure looks nice

Nice job and a clean engine bay for an 04.
Just an observation...the power steering reservoir looks low. Check the hose connections under the passenger side next to the radiator. Mine were loose and fluid was seeping out. Tightened the clamps and all is well.

Tightened the clamps and all is well. Thank you. I'm not leaking any fluid....I just haven't topped it off from when I lost some during my header install. Thanks for noticing though, lol.
Did it make much of a difference over stock?
it helped gain about 1-2 mpg
if your asking about powerwise, then no. its a cai, you cant feel the difference with a cai. if you say you do, than your a liar :p
true true, lets us know if you run into any problems afterwards
Alright 04 guys......This will be for sale come the 3rd week of January (tentative) but most likely 3rd week. LMK if you are interested.
This will also work for 05/6 guys with the PCV delete since the tube close to the throttle body has been shaved off for a cleaner look.
let me know....
Sweet, now you should remove the lid so the intake actually does something better than the stock one.
shouldn't this be in the appearance section?
Sweet, now you should remove the lid so the intake actually does something better than the stock one. So then it'd defeat the purpose of a somewhat cai? draw in all the warm engine bay air in....doesnt make sense. the volant draws air from 2 different places, not one like the stock
shouldn't this be in the appearance section? why? lol
Cause CAI's don't do anything for vehicles, DUH!!! lol....I'm just playin
Cause CAI's don't do anything for vehicles, DUH!!! lol....I'm just playin haha, thats so true! I think the only time it may be somewhat useful is when you have a cam to get some extra air. Notice I didnt say extra cold air :gr_jest:
I'm buying an OTRCAI for actual gains....lol.....but for right now the K&N is cool for me, lol.
paper paper.
but some guys interested in the bling should go for this.

I emailed him from the Flowtech website. But was wondering if has a PM box here or anyone have a phone number for him?
Tom
he's a busy dude. his name here is EDC. other than that, give him a bit.

Ed has excellent customer service !! Ed called and we talked for about 15 minutes. His biggest concern was resolving my problem, and getting the GTO back on the road ASAP. He never once expressed a concern about the cost of getting it done. He is planing on shipping replacement parts NDA on Monday.
Great guy !!

EDC is the man
How to test a coil pack

Last night the CEL begin flashing. I read the code it's P0304 mis fire cylinder #4.
This morning I pulled the plug and compared it to #6. "looks" good or at least the same as #6.
I have removed the coil pack part number on it 12570616
Anyone know how to meter the coil pack to check it?
I think I'll swap this coil with #6 and see if the code moves to.
Tom
i know how to do type2 DIS coils, but this one im not well versed in.
the type2 really only went south if there was a problem with plug wires. a break or high resistance would burn out the secondary windings in the coil.
my guess is the coil pack is fine and you have a problem either with a wires or plug, or you have a fueling issue.
change the plug, and ohm-test the wire versus a known good unit.
what have you done recently to the engine?
What about small cracks on the coil? I've had that happen before where everything looked fine, but whenever condesation would build up it would misfire. Ended up spraying water onto each coil and sure enough, there was definately a bad sign at one....sure thats not the problem, but never know.
Never mind... I found the problem, just not sure what the problem is.... I know I'm not making any sense.
I removed the valve cover. #4 exhaust has an issue. I'll be back soon!
Tom
I would like to know how to test our ignition coils too.
Testing the actual coil is not hard, you just need to know what the primary coil and the secondary coil windings values should be.
Then all you need is a multi meter and you just phm out the windings. The only other test invloves measureing the actual output which I think uses a specific meter to measure the voltage output.
or just swap the coil with a different cylinder and see if the skip is still on #4 or it changes to the other cylinder.
Thump/Clicking Sound from right rear of car when in Park and Idling. Any Ideas???

So, i have been having this strange thump/click on the right rear of my car, i thought it was only happening when driving, however, i noticed that if i have the car in park and just idling, after about 5 or 7 minutes, i will here the succession of 5 clicking noises that sound like they are coming from within something. I was thinking maybe it was the anti-lock solenoid or something cycling.
Has anyone heard this on thier car or have any idea what it might be? Fuel Pump, Anti-lock brakes? I am puzzled.
It only happens once per day, and only the first time i start the car for the day.
It happens to me too. I would not worry about it, though.
Well, i dont really worry about it but would like to know what the heck it is because i never use to hear it, now i do. Only 3,400 miles on the car too, in my opinion it shouldnt be making that kind of noise.
evap emissions - a normal sound, not to worry.
I thought that might be a possibility. Do you know where that device is located, i just want to look at it for curisoity sake.
Thanx
I kept hearing that too!... it sounds like someone knocking on a door. This being Vegas.... I know I didn't put anyone in the trunk... only because it's too small.
It's the 'monkey in the trunk' syndrome guys. And the good news is ALL GTOs have it.
As it was said, it's the evap solenoid doing it's noisy job. It's located right below the gas fill tube, attached to the inside of the fender (you can see it if you lift the car on the rear). That's why it sounds like somebody is knocking on your rear quarter panel. Take care.
JC
i got that noise 2-nite when getting into my car????
It's the evap purge vsv (solenoid) and the sound is normal.
can we wrap it in insulation or header wrap?
The first time this happened, it scared the crap out of me. I thought someone was knocking on my car.
Trunk Monkey FTW!!!!! hehehehe
