Options to having your shift light turned on??
Another question....

Since this is my first GTO and LS1, what are some things I might want to look at as far making sure everything is ok. It's got 23000 on it now, I've just kind of been looking at little things here and there and doing basic maint. to it.
Second, does it have resonators, or 4 cats? I looked under there and though it had two large resonators, and the dude at the exhaust shop told me he couldnt do away with the resonators cause they were cats....who's stupid, me or him?
2 res, 2 cats and 2 mufflers, and welcome to the heard!!!!
ROK :D
Go into your regional forum, and get recommendations for a competent local shop or dealer that is familiar with GTO's. You can then take the car there for a full evaluation.
I guess a good start would be to check all the fluids, change the oil and look for dirt/metal in the old oil.
The cats are the first things downstream of the exhaust manifolds. Tell the muffler shop to pull their head out of their azz and look at the O2 sensors on either side of them. The other things that sort of look like cats just in front of the mid car flange are resonators.
That's what I thought....
Welcome to the herd. There is no better feeling than to do your own basic maint. like fluid changes ( oil, tranny, and diff. ) and to get to know your car. While under there, check the tightness of all of your fasteners and especially the axle shafts ( allen wrenches).
Unfortuneately, most muffler shop (chains) pros are not savy to the 04 gto's exhaust system (I went through this myself) and it took a bet that I would pay double if the resonators were cats and they could even cut one open. If you search under resonators, you will even find a pic. from another member of one cut open.
Dyno Tune!

just need input here:
will Dyno Tuning my goat void the warranty? will they (service dep't) know that my goat has been dyno tuned when i go for a service maintenance? thanks.
yes, it can.
no, it probably won't.
I am not sure if the Tech2 can see if it was modified.

I am not sure if the Tech2 can see if it was modified. thank you Sir.
I just called pontiacs service department today about my clutch and they said ANY service done outside of pontiac will void the warrenty, I have a predator tuner done but they couldnt tell.
I just called pontiacs service department today about my clutch and they said ANY service done outside of pontiac will void the warrenty, I have a predator tuner done but they couldnt tell. In a simple way, no it will not void the warranty. It is against the law to void your warranty for aftermarket parts on a car. The owner is protected under the Magnuson/Moss warranty act.
But is the modded part causes the failure then yes they can void the warranty, and when you are talking ECM calibrations that control everything on the car from the motor to the tranny then yes if you jack the calibration up they could say it was the calibration that caused the issues.
More than likely though they will never know, they would have to have a reason to look for a modded ECM calibration. Mine has been into the shop several times with a modded ECM calibration and other modded parts with no issues from my dealer so far, but my dealer is not the norm and this is really up to how your dealer likes to deal with modded cars.

good to know, thanks.
where mine was tuned they keep files where i can go back to stock if needed and have my tune put back in. i havent had a problem yet.
your best thing to do is maybe talk to the service advisor at your dealership and get a friendly bond going before you show up with a busted clutch and twin turbos!! Hehe.
But really, all the stuff in my sig I have had and went to the dealer for a front end clunk twice, bad alignment, power seat not working (just today) passenger seat motor died and some other stuff.
my mods had nothing to do with any of that so they fixed it all.
When I went in with a knock sensor error, they saw my headers were rubbing on the knock sensor and didn't fix it so I had to myself. So it just depends on what the problem is.
You run nitrous and show up with a slipping tranny...you probably won't get it fixed by them (unless you remove the nitrous and never mention it).
thanks guys for the replies; here are my new numbers after Dyno tuned 11/12/07 : 347.73 rwh / 345.82 tq, AFR = 12.84 ; Mods: Cold Air Induction, Custom Xpipe, Spintech Mufflers and Dyno Tuned. What do you guys think of my new numbers? thanks.
Reversed Twinscrew SC 130m TB

What do you guys think....
Currently working on a 2.2L version but will have 2.8L versions too. KB core for the R&D but new cores coming direct from Sweden for retail versions. ALL intercooled. Larger ones will have twin 70mm Throttlebodies and water injection standard.
(Ignore the car in the background. Thats a different project)
:eek2: , I like!
God I hope something good comes of this for the general public. Im so tired of blue balls.
It will be available for the general public.
yes but not to fit under a stock gto hood it would seem
Cut the hood open LOL.
I'd love to see a black KB sticking out of the hood if it's done right.
Sorry but I still think TVS FTW. It will be a kit that actually works. I'm not holding my breath for the twin screw. Its the only thing worse than the "hurst" shifter.
yes but not to fit under a stock gto hood it would seem Wanna bet. I have a 2002 WHII Caprice which has the exact same engine bay layout at the GTO (Monaro). It fits perfectly with no bonnet mods required.
(This is an old pic but shows you the layout. I used to have a GenT Turbo kit on the car from www.ls1turbo.com.au (same awesome guys that do the GenTT)
any update?
Whats in the background????:wall:
Whats in the background????:wall: Looks to be a rare Holden Super Cart. :D
Any updates???
Its undergoing some on car testing atm before official release but what i can say is OMG!! Ive had turbo's, strokers and Eatons... this is WAY better IMO. None of the inherent problems with the water to Air intercooler failures we saw with the whipples, less restriction, more efficient intercoolers, no heatsoak. Aust launch is 2 weeks away!!
Edit: oh, and it all fit under the bonnet with NO mods and you get to keep the strut brace too.
Dude that is crazy. I might have to get another goat to try this on :)
The 2 "ears" on the front are actually for a front mounted Air to air intercooler. The water to air coolers that sit under the manifolds in the traditional manner seem to fail and the fins fall apart (directly into the engine). They also suffer badly from heatsoak and rarely get the intake charge under 90c (engine water temps) We did a LOT of testing in this area and have seen the issue on quite a few cars using the older style of cooler.
BTW, I have a 408 stroker with one of these (2.8L version) going on this.
:hail:
We need vids.
The big question. How much? :gears:
The water to air coolers that sit under the manifolds in the traditional manner seem to fail and the fins fall apart (directly into the engine). can't say i've ever seen that happen. you have two cars?
OMFG im sooo ready for this, time to pay off the CC now so i have enough for it ;)
edit: is that a '27 behind the engine, could be a 32 but those fender buldges look like the 27's
:hail:
We need vids. What he said!!! :drink:
-D
We need some serious updates. PLEAZE.
^^^ I was told by VooDoo that he'd email the info on the kit to me after release. This was a couple weeks ago and by his estimate, that information should come either this week or next (if all goes well).
Oh, interestlying last time I checked this thread the pictures were taken down. Now that they're up again maybe that's a good sign... ??
-D
We had a few minor issues with tuning (I felt 14psi was a bit too much for a stock engine) and have now relocated the throttlebody and made a couple of minor changes. We are now on 10psi with the stock setup but 14psi is still very easy to archive with a pulley swap but you will need a decent tuner as your pushing the limits of the stock bottom end. (Note: pulley swap takes 10 mins and comes with the kit at no charge!!)
Everything is back on the car and more K's being done. We should be able to sign off on the kit by Friday (or early next week at worse case)
oh, and we lost the "ears"
^^Oh dear god its king of the roots blowers!!!!!!!!:gears::gears:
Will trade GF for Kenne Bell.....:ftw:
Who do you gottta kill to get one of these..??
^^Oh dear god its king of the roots blowers!!!!!!!!:gears::gears:
Will trade GF for Kenne Bell.....:ftw: No roots, Twin Screw!!!! I cant wait to see what it looks like with all the plumbing finnished and ran. what kind of TB is it going to be using, will i be able to use the stocker or would i have to transfer the sensors to a new one?
I am sooooo glad that I don't have the money this year for a TT or a SC cuz' with all of these new shiny mods coming out I'm hoping I'll be able to have a large selection to choose from when the time comes for me to make my purchase! It's a blessing in disguise.
=)
Me too,I'm doing headers and verter next..Then I'll wait to see whats comming this fall,I relly wanna go FI and I would love a KB sitting on top of my LS2
Ahhh....this is what I've been waiting for. >Evil Grin<
Options to having your shift light turned on?

Is there anybody out there or software out there that would be able to have the shift light activated besides Chris White?
nope
not shure if hptuners can or not, but do remember seeing something in it about the shift light. someone else will know more than me lol.
not shure if hptuners can or not, but do remember seeing something in it about the shift light. someone else will know more than me lol. no, no it can not. It did have a "shift light" activation button, but it did nothing. Chris White is the ONLY person in the United States that can do this.
That is quite odd, that only one person seems to have the software/program for these clusters. You would think that any electronics repair facility that specializes in IPC's, and has half a brain, would be able to change the functions in these clusters.

I know this post is going to get Chris' attention.:wall:
Given the relatively small number of GTO's in the US it probably isn't worth anyone else's time to reverse engineer the cluster. Just be glad that Chris has done so or there would be zero options for this.
Chris White is the devil.
PS... he drinks like a woman.
They really need to make a tool so you can search previous post so there isn't as much rehashed post, and clutter on the board. Wouldn't it be nice? :wall:
The guy takes his time and money to develop software to unlock and mod our clusters. Then on his free time flies out to random cities to mod clusters for people. You're complaining because he won't fly out to PA then drive another 2 hours to see you about modding your cluster......now you want to have someone else do it.
Childish.

QFT. Whaddya expect from "lazygoat" though? :gr_jest:
chris white FTMFW!!!
I thought it was a legit question personally. That's great that Chris took the time, or has access to the software for the GTO people. But, considering that many of todays IPC's use the same technology, I highly doubt he is the "only" one that can do it. Anybody sit in a Corvette within the last 10 years?

I'm not knocking Chris, if there is something special about the GTO IPC that nobody else knows about, then I guess he deserves all the back patting he seems to be getting here.

I'm not knocking Chris, if there is something special about the GTO IPC that nobody else knows about, then I guess he deserves all the back patting he seems to be getting here. I think there is much more to it than meets the eye. First there seems to be a software routine that must be run to make the routine accessible, after that, then the light is set. Best thing about Chris is he doesn't risk screwing up the car to get it done, he knows what he is doing. Not much different in Diff Technics having about the only gear sets. I like those guys too.

Glad you have selective reading. Due to reasons that werent known earlier, Chris is on a very time sensative trip. He hadnt let that be known earlier and I have already apologized. If you read the thread, I wasnt being childish. So City Goat, @#$% of and stop hijacking threads with negative posts. If you knew all that went on instead of skimming through it, you wouldnt have made an a$$ out of yourself. It wasnt just me, it was about 8 plus that were interested. Have a nice day.

nope /thread
i heard chris white once killed 7 al queda members with his left thumb. he would have used both, but he was using his right hand for Wii bowling at the time and didnt want to mess up his 300 score.

admin, can we PLEASE make a sticky thread with a subect of:
factory shift light?
Chris is coming out to Nor Cal this saturday to activate a bunch of our shift lights. Woo hoo.
I once saw Chris White in a world class steak house, he ate an entire 48 oz steak in 50 minutes. He spent the first 45 minutes having sex with the waitress.
You can try to do this, it is not easy ;) The time it takes to do this, vs the limited market for the holden clusters.
Your other option is setup a window switch, hard wire into the cluster, and solder in a new led to handle the shift light effect, (while looking factory)
The service chris has is reasonable.
Ryan
Shift light is an optional feature and can be enabled/disabled flipping a single bit in cluster’s non-volatile memory. At least this is how this type of stuff most OEM’s handle. These optional features are enabled via diagnostics messages. So you need 2 things:
1 – tool that can communicate on the vehicle bus
2 – know what message(s) to send
GM dealer should be able to do this…
Personally, I found it easier to pay CW and have him do this although lately I have been thinking it would be nice to be able to play with these options whenever I feel like it.
PS – those above are my personal thoughts and I could be wrong!
GM dealer should be able to do this… Thats funny! ;)
And its not just a single switch. What about the RPM? I think he can even set different shift lights for different ECT's.
The chief export of Chris White is shift lights and the clap
There are no disabled shift lights. Only people who have not met Chris White.
Chris White can divide by zero.
The chief export of Chris White is shift lights and the clap Chris White doesn't get wet, water gets Chris White.
My cluster got Chris Whited a few weeks ago...
My e-penis is 42 feet long. kthx  Ha, Mine is 43 Feet!

. Single bit to enable, 16 bits to set the treshold. If you can write one bit to memory, there is no reason you could not write 16 bits... You just have to know where.
