cam only 04 build on a budget

just got my cam in the mail, waiting on a few other choice parts.
after learning my lesson on my GTP about buying the best of the best of the best, i decided to take a more frugal route. here's what i have done so far and the respective prices:
Orrssom shifter (new, never installed) = 120
Lou's Shorts stick for stock knob = 55
Pacesetter Longtube Headers (used) = 180
catless mids (made by a friend) = 100, including install of all other exhaust parts minus headers
Bassani X Pipe (used) = 50
Magnaflow 14416s used = 70
Magnaflow tips = 40
Pedders springs = 200
BMR drag bags (new, never installed) = 50
and waiting to go in, i have:
Custom Thunder Racing cam, (new, never installed) im calling it "The Whore" 232/238 612/607 111+2 = 220
Patriot Extremes (take offs, not used) = 139
LS2 chain = 25
TSP Pushrods (new, never installed) = FREE
ASP UD Pulley (used) = 100
Gaskets/bolts/seals = 55
i have 150 in tuning and 100 in dyno time paid. ill have to pay another 100 to get the dyno time to tune.
im pretty proud of the fact ive been thrifty on this build, and will still have a very respectable car when im done.
what do you guys think?
Very impressive and a major bang for the buck. That cam is going to be just plain nasty.
Nice build man,Some of those prices are insane,u must search hard for good deals..Me im too lazy and always want the best of the best like u said,And that translates to me being broke :D lol
^^^^ I know what you mena .... I cant wait till you get it in jed I bet it will be just plain nasty as hell
i think my next mod, unless the clutch blows up, is going to a shot of Brand X dope. and then comes the car seat
:eek::eek::eek: dun dun dun!!!
Looks like you've got a good list going man. I have to gather you'll be doing the whole install yourself? Because that alone will save some big $.
Awesome, just awesome. can we call you "the frugal dick"? lol
on a more serious note, it's not like the car and the engine know how much you spent on those parts.
yes, install all on my own.
frugal dick, catchy;)
good luck with your install man, i wish i had all the "used parts market" that is available now,at that time, otherwise i would have done it your way. cheers!!
thats crazy lol. you paid like 10 times less for your headers then the new signature kooks.
tell me about it. they looked kinda rough as they came from a NorthEast car, but a red ScotchBrite, grease and wax remover, and a can of VHT Header Paint made them look like this:
and i paid 100 to make catless mids, guess i forgot that part.
Great Jarb I scoured the used market too, but went with a mega death cam kit and some well worked 243 heads
sweet deal jed, now get all that crap installed and get er' on the rollers and to the 1320 :)
keep me updated!

and i paid 100 to make catless mids, guess i forgot that part. That was it? Man I spent hours trying to take the paint off mine, and eventually had to give them to somebody else to sandblast them to get off all the crap I couldn't get to with the sandpaper and brass wire wheel.
Then I cleaned them with acetone and went through one can of VHT primer (could have easily used two) and three cans of paint to get them covered.
I should have just bought the coated. I thought I would save money, but didn't realize it was going to take so much to get the paint off.

these were used, so alot of the paint was burned off already. the scotchbrite took the paint off no problem, as well as the rust and salt. wipe down with grease and wax remover, go back over it with brake cleaner, then dry wipe and paint. took all of 15minutes.
Sounds good man...you are doing it within a budget, hard to do with all the go fast parts for this car...
actually i think i paid 180 for my pedders springs, ill have to check my paypal history.

Jed, strong work. I wish I had your patience.
Where did you find the headers and stuff used? Ebay?
here and LS1Tech. i got the headers here from someone who couldnt get them to seal. your loss, my gain.
Good work, I've done quite the same w/ my car.
Barely used stainlessworks longtubes + catted mids - $800, sold the cats for $300 and used that for the HP Tuners credits. My whole cam package cost me only $350,and it's new stuff.
I would suggest a "double roller timing chain" especially with that big of a cam! You will regret in the future for skipping this. The LSI / LS2 single chains are loose like bicycle chains I promise you will see this when you open you engine up. Mine was cammed at 9,000 miles and loose as shit LS2.
I'm hoping you will do a write up on the cam install since your going the route I would like to go, and I hope to see a lot of pics as well. Best of luck either way.
Subscribed.
My cam = 100 Pushrods = 80 Valve springs = 150.
All these parts were new also. Building on a budget is so nice :)

Mine was cammed at 9,000 miles and loose as shit LS2. ill look into it. we've done many a cam on LS1 FCars with stock chains. but im the type that checks my stuff on a yearly basis. <40 in gaskets and an hours work is cheap insurance.

Subscribed. you got it. i think we are having a mod day in OK in the next few weeks. im going to go thru it in detail with a few of the local guys here that arent as familiar. ill have to have someone take many pictures and ill do a detailed write-up on how to do it the right way.

Thats the way to do it.
Well i didn't sell my stock cats, I sold the cats that came with the headers.
damn man good job snagging the stuff dirt cheap
19x10 Lowered

I'm looking at the setups I would like and I was thinking 19x10 275 tires in the rear and I wanted to do the pedders kit that lowers the rear about 0.75" I think. I don't want to do too much more than roll my fenders. Is this setup asking to much to not have any rubbing?

Another New FlowMaster Exhaust Going In.....

The UPS Driver made another stop at the ROK house this week. And this time it was for a new FlowMaster Force II Cat-Back Exhaust System. This unit is for the Pickup, woohoo, the Silverado is going to get a make over. I've already done some appearance mods now it's time for some performance mods!! (I guess a cat back is a performance mod, be it a small one)
I want to do a CAI, but not sure which one would be the best. It's a 2001 Silverado 1500 w/a 4.8 V8. The stock one looks pretty good and looks like it's large enough for the intake. The thing is Huge, lol, oh and I like the filter element indicator gauge.
Any ideas or suggestions on an intake would be great.....
ROK

Post up some pics man.
Post up some pics man.
I'm planing on getting taller and wider tires this year also. Maybe a small lift too.
It's nothing special and I've had it for a couple of years now. I was putting my money into the Goat, now it's time for the truck, lol, lol....
ROK :)
Oh I forgot the best mod, my Propeller, lol, lol........
ROK
.
I have always loved Regular Cab shortbeds. Had a 1992, built 350, m5, nasty tires, lil lift, great in the mud, great on highway, awesome allround vehicle. Have fun!

Yeah I originally wanted a short bed, but when I saw this truck come in from the auction I couldn't resist. And actually the long bed comes in very handy. Being a home owner and loading up the truck with house stuff is fun, lol, lol. But it's time for some mods!!!!
I bet your 92 was one mean looking and performing truck!!! Do you have any pics of it?

Q About 06 QSM

I noticed a lot of 06 QSMs, almost all A4/black have a clean lense on the front bumper while others have the orange. I want to know is this stock of aftermarket. Mainly cuz I only noticed it on that combo I just stated.
Like this one:

(I may be going to see this goat this week)
The clear lens is aftermarket.
Weird, cuz I only see QSM with it. Thanks for clearin it up tho

Yeah, but to me those are more white and non-see through. The ones I see are like clear and you can see the bulb in there, anyway I get it. They are aftermarket
Post your tax refund mods

I saw another thread where a guy was talking about how he was gonna spend his income tax refund check. I'm betting lots of us will be buying parts. Everyone is at different stages of modding, so it'll be cool to see what folks are planning to get with Uncle Sam's refund.
I'll start out: LC1 wideband and A/F gauge, AeroForce gauge, SCSS gauge pod.
l92/l76 setup new era intake ls7 clutch:burnout:
Refund?....Im happy for years I get tank of gas back.......
hmmm what will I do. . . . . . .
Oh yea L92/L76 swap with who knows what cam lol
Pay off the Christmas gifts.
Refund?....Im happy for years I get tank of gas back....... Yea really! Ya'll tell me what you want, I'd rather write my check out to someone that will put it to good use, instead of the IRS.
Fill gas tank on the way to the bank, deposit the rest in my money market acct.
pay off credit card for all the mods on the GTP:(
more pedders and a couple of things from bmr and jamesbiz
Beyern 5 wheels hopefully.
Or might just make a really big payment on the GTO.
Depends on how I feel at the time.
Hoping to get something back this year... I had to pay 'em thousands last year.
No tax refund for me this year. All of my income is non taxable because it is a disability income. I am still getting new heads in March.
Hoping to get something back this year... I had to pay 'em thousands last year. that sucks man y i love being a student
Pay off the Christmas gifts. YO holy crap you got a gto ? check your pm's
Im paying off the rest of my car so i can buy a gto with my return :)
Cam package
SLP UDP
Fast 90/90 ported
Injectors
Tune :D
That should be enough for NOW..
My tax refund rec'd in 08 is paying off mods made in 07. Mods to be made in 08 and paid for in 09 are new tires, LS7 clutch, and a few exhaust and valvetrain upgrades.
Hopefully....Fingers crossed here. Since I just bought a house and got married and added a stepkid into the mix.
A Procharger F-1A or Gen-TTR. Nitrous makes the most sense money wise to go fast at the track. But being blown feels soooo much better. lol
Nice wheel and tire setup for the strip and an electric water pump.
Oh lets see so much I want, probably rims and tires, cam, heads and exaust plus a tune should take care of what I have left, would love to get a twin turbo but that will be next year for sure.
all the parts that will be going up for sale when you ****ers take them off to upgrade :)
all the parts that will be going up for sale when you ****ers take them off to upgrade :) :ohsnap1:
Savings :)
:ohsnap1: a used intake is as good as a new intake, same for exhaust, Predators, FAST intakes, etc
:)

:) Yeah I know. There's a set of 317 heads in the for sale section that have Comp 921's already for $400 shipped. They would work great for a boosted application.
Tires, and more tires.
Paying off mods I already bought lol.
Pay on some of my credit cars debt from 07.
well i need to pay off some bills but i will probably get a cam lol
Pay some bills, add some drivetrain mods.
