Steering Wheel

About two months or so ago i had my car into the dealer to replace my steering wheel. Well i noticed today that it now appears to be loose. I was wondering if anyone knew how i would go about tightening it up myself. Any help would be great.
It Might Be The Column.. Mine Was Replaced Twice To Get It Right. Steering Wheel Was Tight.
First make sure the lever for the tilt and telescope is all the way up. It's on the bottom of the column.
Or the nut isn't tight. It's a 30mm nut. bad part is you have to remove the airbag to see if it is loose.
You have to remove the battery power and fuse for the airbag ( double safety) and there are 4 clips that have to be released on the back of the wheel. Then the airbag comes out. probably don't even have to unplug it to check.
As already said though it could be the column :(
It is prolly the bolt. It comes with threadlock on it from the factory. If they don't put more on, it will come loose. Mine came loose 3 times before I finally put threadlock on it. Hasn't come loose since.
I hate Knock Retard!!

Alright, I have a scangauge pretty much the same thing as a dashhawk, and whenever I go about half throttle and the converter unlocks putting the rpm's around 3k I get about 4-33KR. Now there is no way that this reading is 33 degrees of timing. If that were the case then I am sure my engine would have already let go.
Also, about every other time when I go full throttle the scangauge reads anywhere from 4KR-33KR. Any help would be usefull, I am kind of pissed off that I am getting KR. However, even when the car reads 33KR it still pulls just as hard.
What should I do to see if it is true KR, purchase octane booster.....colder spark plugs?
Thanks for the help,
Alex
Well I just took the car out for a test drive and at first it started to get knock retard about 14KR at part throttle and about the same at full throttle. I was also keeping an eye on the timing and at full throttle it says about 23-24 and part throttle is 30-35. I don't know how acurate this reading is but it is coming straight from my OBD port. But after a while of cruising and putting the throttle down the KR went away?? But the timing still reads the same? I guess maybe it is false knock, maybe my exhaust is causing it...
Here is my dyno graph showing my A/F ratio:
Don't know the answer, but after viewing like a billion freakin' logs over the last couple weeks, I can tell you that I see more KR when the car is cold too. Edit: And by cold, I don't mean cold cold....what you describe. It is less after getting the car warmed up after driving it a while.

Gerry
Get the car scanned with HP Tuners or EFI live to see where in the powerband the KR is happening. Compare that to your timing tables and adjust accordingly. The gage you have is only letting you know when you have KR, not specifically why. If you had your car tuned, take it back to them an have them do it right.
I know with a scan tool sometimes it swill be 33 and actually need to read 3.3. Sometimes the GM stuff will leave a decimal place out there. 33* of KR is non sense. hellbent has had some experience with those stupid capacitor spark plugs and they will show KR with it idling and start pulling timing before you even tough the pedal.
theres a big difference between part throttle lugging the engine up a hill KR, then WOT running through gears KR...

and you hate knock, not knock retard... knock retard saves your engine :)
don't knock the retard, retard. :D
kidding, kidding.

Do you think that TR6 NGK plugs might help or get rid of the problem? I know that they are for FI but if the plug is one 1 step colder then doesn't that translate to 1* of timing lower? I might order an oil catch can b/c the other day when I pulled my intake off I opened the TB a bit and put my finger into it and there was def. oil buildup on the inside.
Alex
You've upped your power enough, that you probably need TR6's.
As far as the KR goes, I see a few degrees when the car is cold and the converter locks at low RPM. I'm going to move my OD shift point up a few mph to try avoiding that. As said before make sure you don't have knock at WOT and you should be ok.

I am probably going to get some TR6 plugs soon, what do you think I should gap them at? I was thinking .045 instead of the .035 they come with.

I heard you guys were knocking retards in this thread. That's not nice.

Thanks for the help everyone,
Alex
If you'd like to scan with hp tuners one day/night hit me up. im not that close to clermont but i'm sure we could figure something out.
fwiw, i had opened up my stock plug gap to around .055 and when i began tuning spark advance by adding a couple of degrees it got crazy amounts of knock retard. changed the plugs back to .040 the knock retarded went away complete and the car has a noticeable change in power.
anywho if ya want to log it one day lemme know.
Volant CAI

So, I got my Volant intake in from Jim06GTO. Thanks Jim06GTO!! Fast shipping and the parts were exactly as described. Everything looked new!
Well, I installed the Volant, and I took the car for a drive.
I didnt not any difference in sound with the Volant. Is that normal? My car is stock with just the Volant Cai. Im 100% sure I installed it correctly. Anyone has sound clips of the Volant cai?
Thanks.
well i dont know if it makes a difference- but i installed a lingenfelter cold air intake on my stock 04 and when i get on it i can hear it from inside my car-and if i rev it i can def. hear it pulling air-who knows if its all show and no go
Glad it arrived ok.
Because the Volant is a sealed box, it wont be as loud as other intakes. When it was on my car I couldn't really hear any noise from it either. So I wouldn't worry about it.
Kool.
Again, thanks for being a GREAT seller!!! Everything was in its original package. Even the box it came in was originally for Volant. I would've never known it was used.
Thanks bro!!

True i have a K&N and my buddy has a Volant. Mine is loud his isn't.
Kumho Ecsta SPT or General Exclaim UHP

Two of my HSV wheels have flaking around the lugs and a third one has a large chunk of finish taken out of it from something hitting on the road:cursin:
Anyway - I'm going to run the stock 18s for a while until I can get the HSVs refinished.
Would like to not roll/cut rear fenders. Will use 235s up front. Does anyone have the Kumhos in 255/35ZR18 OR the Generals in 275/35? 275s are probably too big for not rolling. Generals also come in a 245/40 that should work. Thanks for any input!!
i run the uhp on my 04. Dont seem to have any strut rub up front with the 245/40/18 . and the rear with the stereo and lowered i have no issues with rub. my biggest complaint however with the uhp is it is not a solid cornering tire. the car seems to feel loose during spirited driving. Hope this helps.
Yeh, any info helps - Maybe I should just do the General's in 245 on all four corners. They seemed to get really good reviews especially for the price. I really like the look of the Kumhos though. Thanks!
summitomo HTR ZIII's.....best tire on the market for the money.
I like the price on the Sumitomo HTRZ II. It doesn't come in a 255, but I just realized - niether does the Kumho Ecsta SPT. Either of them come in 265/35/18. I hear the Kumho's run wide (almost like the BFGs). Anybody know about the Sumitomos? I think a 265 is pushing it for the 18" wheels and not grinding the fenders.
Also considering Yokohama S.drive and Toyo Proxes T1R at this point.
id go with the Sdrives over the T1R...
the HTR ZIII's do come in a 255/35/18
Ha! It sure does come in a 255. I was looking at the HTR ZII. Price is really good - I think I'm gonna try the HTR ZIII in 235/40/18 on front and 255/35/18 on back - and cross my fingers and hope it fits.
Thanks!
Spt..

The SPT outperforms the UHP in every category.
Yeh - I read that test article from tire rack. The Kumhos look much better than the Generals too. Right now trying to decided b/t the Kumhos in 245/40/18 on all four corners or the HTR ZIII in 235 on front and 255 on rear.
:gears:
I have the UHP's. They rock. Smoke REAL GOOD, but as with any of the harder compound cheaper tires, they don't corner well. Think about it, though. If you want them to last, they are going to be harder compound anyway, and they won't be able to corner well. I took my stock 04 A4 to the track, cut a 1.9 60 ft and didn't spin AT ALL. Light em up on the street and hello smoke show.
I love em and will buy more of them for the street.
I decided to stop screwing around today and ordered the Kumho's from discount tire in 235/40/18 for the front and 265/35/18 for the rear. Supposed to be getting them put on Sat. I dunno if the rears will fit without rubbing, but they told me they would swap them if they didn't fit so I guess I'm good.
Will post pics once I get them on.
any pictures?
any pictures?
I'd love to have some pics to post.... I ordered the tires from Discount Tire back on Monday the 10th. The rears came in about three days later, but the fronts did not come in until this past Thursday the 20th. Unfortunatly I left to go out of town that same day. I won't have them on the car until Dec. 30th when I get back to town. The holidays have everyone backed up I guess.
I had a 96 TA with 2653518 Sumi HTR's all the way around. It put down over 300rwhp, full BMR rear suspension n 3.73s, it was scary how easily it would break the tires loose. I would vote for the T1R I have heard that they do well autocrossing I have heard the Generals are liked better then BFG KDWS and even some KDW. Personally I am sold on the Bridgestone RE-01R, this tire is quiet, decent in rain until you want to play and grips the dry like nobodys business and is made in a 265/35R18.
Good luck and may the goats be with you.
If you go with 255s on the back you may want to consider going with a 40 series instead of 35, I'm running 265/35/18 and the sidewall is a little too short, a 255/35 would be even worse. The HTR Z III come in a 255/40/18 as well.

Well - I have the Kumho's ordered in 235/40 and 265/35. I ordered them under the pretense that if they didn't fit for any reason they would swap them for a different size (or tire). Do you have your fenders modified at all for the 265? Because I'm not rolling - if they dont fit I will just get some different tires. Getting them put on the 31st. Merry Christmas!!

I have not modified my fenders at all, but I'm running 9" wide TSWs with a +45 offset and the Falken's I have seem to run very narrow, and as I said the sidewall is shorter than it really should be. On the stock 18s with 265 Kumho's it may be close...
