under hood pumps

Is there any way to retrofit a beltdriven pump under the hood of a 95 F-150 with a 4.9 I6, 5 speed, with a Meyers 7.5 foot with the E47 (I know you need not say anything, but I couldnt pass up the used deal) I keep hearing these horror stories about plowing for several hours and the darn thing has to sit to recharge to move the plow. I think cables and levers would be cool (a real mans truck requires a little coordination to drive) but who am I to talk with an F-150. Any thoughts any one? I would also like to know if there is a pto pump available for a zf 5sp, as I am going to be swapping one in. (seriously to anyone with a mazda 5spd and borg warner 1356 T case: It is a bolt in affair with the right transmission from the 250) That mazda piece of crap is starting to get a noisy throwout bearing and I would like a low 1st gear with the 3.08s i have. So anyones suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
grab a trans out of a f-350,1st is a little lower than the light duty zf in there now, neighbor swapped one in last year,a dream to drive now.
the 350 trans has a pto opening on both sides, but with that setup it would have to be in neutral to operate the pump.plus the tank and such would be a pain in the butt to mount.worked on a f-350 trash truck with the otp mounted on the trans, what a pain to work on..
best bet, keep the underhood engine driven pump,i have one on my 78 bronco, best thing in the world..
ive run my old scout with a manual angle plow off a ford power steering pump, ran like that for 10+ yrs,no failurs, even had the origional hoses from 1966 on it still.
So you would just mount a power steering pump in some way, and then connect the pressure and return lines from the pump to a valve block with a joystick or dual two way spools? Or jury rig and old Western multistick setup.
i would go to the dealer and see if they still make the brackets and pullys for the pump and mount them.the power steering setup works but with the power angle, not sure if it would make enough pressure to use it while the blade is down, maybe im wrong on that, but the 95 has 1 belt, maybe they make the brackets still for the vehicle, along with the pulleys to mount them.you can try the p.s pump and see if it works.
power steering pump would work but don't use the crappy ford one with the plastic reservior. Go to the saginaw pump that is used on gms and on Ford vans. alot more output to work with power angle. also if the previous owner took care of the maza (not to say he didn't) it is a great tranny. I use one in my prerunner f150 and haven't destroyed it yet
use the steel resevoir pump.they dont whine like the plastic ones.

Front axle help

I have a 86 F250 and want to change the front axle to solid straight front. How big of a job id it and what axle do I look for? Thanks for any help.:)
You want a Dana 60 from a 1986-199? F350 straight axle, with the carrier bar and bracket, and with the whole steering linkage up to and including the pitman arm. Other than that it is a bolt on job. Thats the good news, the bad news is they are almost impossible to find used for under $1000. Although I just had 2 that I sold for $700 a piece that needed a little work each. Make sure you get the same ratio as the rear axle or forget 4wd. You want the kingpin style knucle axle, not the newer ball joint style. Although the newer one may work also, the older kingpin style is stronger. You can get all the info you need on this and more at this site, do some searching. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/
With general tools and knowledge, it could be done in 4 hours, quicker if you are good. Its pretty simple
Don't forget about new U-bolts. If you plan on using your existing springs, you will experience a 2-3" lift in fornt. This will affect your steering caster angles. You will also want to install rear add-a-leafs to compensate for this.
I don't want the truck any higher then it is now. The truck now has 33" tires and still plenty of wheel well room and it stock. I gather the other springs don't have as much of an arch? Is there any place off hand that sells them. I have a friend thats trying to get one for me know but nt a guarantee. Thanks for the help.
Hows Fords New 5 Speed Auto?

I looked through the arcives and havent found any thing bad about the new 5 speed Auto? Are they that good? Thanks
Too new to tell. Let use punish it a while and we will tell you. I hope it's better then their last transmissions offerings.
I dunno 'bout the full size trucks, but I've had a 5 speed auto in my last two rangers. It's not bed, better than a 4 spd. It's nice when it shifts it only drops a couple hundred rpm instead of like 500. It keeps the engine running right where the bulk of the power is.
10,000 miles on F350 6.o psd no reverse! Dealer tells me Ford hot line tells them problem when truck used for plowing. After repairs Owner (me) should pay to have an auxillary transmission fan installed. Got to love it!!!!!!!!!!!
So the B.S. is starting.Boba are you the only driver? Thanks
No, I'm not the only driver. However, the other driver has plowed and worked for me for 14 years. It is NOT an operator created problem.
Truck went by flat bed to the dealer i purchased it from. The other dealer, who has done a lot of my repair work, told me 2-3 weeks. I think that may end our business relationship.
Three weeks!Have they ever rebuilt the new 5 speed or are you the test case?Looks like rain this weekend, can't even make a buck!
The dealer that has the truck is Marchese, in New Lebanon. He is predominantlly a truck dealer. I only had my trucks serviced at the other dealer because they are closer. That was the one that quoted 3 weeks.
Just finished a phone conversation with the service manager. Ford requires the transmission to be broken down before they will authorize anything. Just a great time of year!!!!!!!!!!
Ford is putting a new transmission in the truck. The original one had an improperly installed snap ring.
Thank goodness for no snow in the forecast.
Good news Boba. It seems like Fords got these trannys right. I've been on The DieselStop.com haven't found that many bad words. 55 this weekend.
Boba - did you go to Johnson Ford? They screwed my friend over on service to his F250 and charged my father a fortune for chasing down a short in his 95 PSD.
Install new roof marker lights

I've got a recently purchased 1990 F250 5.0L At some point in its life it had roof marker lights installed. There are 6 holes accross the front just above the windshield and one hole on each windshield support a couple of inches below the others. Rather than just fill the eight holes, I'd like to nstall new lights. I took the interior roof molding off expecting to gain access to the holes but that did not expose them. They appear to be drilled only through the exterior sheet metal. Is there an easy way to remove the interior roof sheet metal to get to the holes or should I just drill through the second layer in line with the original holes and run the wires?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Jeff
Could the holes have been for a visor? thats what it sounds like with the holes on the pillar. If there were lights, maybe the wiring is there and you can fish it out. I think you'd be able to fish the wires through if they are not there without drilling through to the inside of your truck. An electricians fish tape and an extra set of hands would help. Are you thinking of using a new or salvaged harness or making your own?
73-79 Fseries

Will a half ton meyer set-up fit a 3/4 ton and vice versa on a 73-79 Fseries?
Thanx
They should fit, the frames should be the same it's just what they bolt to it that changes( bigger springs, axles etc ) If the truck side frame came from that year range in should bolt up. E-mail Myer thru their web site, they even sent me an install guide for free for my Myer's plow after they answered my E-mail.
