Hello I have a 94 F150 extend cab 4x4 6250lb gvw. Is there torsion bars on it? If yes how much can I turn them up? Also can I put 3/4ton leaf in the rear maybe bigger coils in front? Thanks Mike Theres no torsion bars on that year Ford. There should be coil springs on it. Maybe look into timbrens if you want to beef up the front end. Much easier than swaping coil springs. Lift Kit On 350 Diesel Crew?plow?
Hey from KS! A question to all you ford and chevy guys out there. I've a ford f-350 diesel crew-cab lariat that i plow with. Its got an 8'2" Boss V. The truck already has the snowplow package, but i want to raise it 6 inches and put bigger tires on. Is that such a good idea with a blade? I'm no novice plower, but im just not sure if i should go ahead with that or not. Please give me some feedback guys! THANKS SHOULDER TO SHOULDER LANDSCAPE AND EXCAVATION INC JON:) Bossfan. Your truck looks fine, leave it alone! LOL Glad you decided to start posting. Rick Rick, Thanks! Would still like to lift truck though! Is this possible to do and still plow with no problem? Jon :bluebounc It can be done, but you will have to drop the plow harness to bring it back to the correct height afterwards. This will require reworking the mount, and will put a lot more stress on the front section of the frame, and the mount itself.Dropping the mount down give the plow more leverage, and applies more force than it was originally designed for. What about lifting it for the summer only ? Then just swap your old parts back on for the winter ? Or you could run really small tires in the winter,to help bring the truck back down some. Plowing in a lifted truck is also more difficult,as you lose some visibility in front of the truck, and it's harder to judge where the plow is.It can be done, but I'd think it over carefully before you do. I'd do a search on here,as it has been discussed somewhat before. Hey, thanks for the info. Thats what i needed to know. Lota work to switch back and forth from summer to winter but it may be worth it. Possibly a shorter lift kit? I totally aggree with you though. :) You could go with a smaller lift kit.Go just big enough to run the tires you want. You could then go back to a smaller tire (smaller than factory) in the winter, and be pretty close to stock height. You have to make sure that the a-frame is as close to level as possible. With a V-blade it's even more crucial,as the blade will not work properly, and cutting edge wear will be excessive. 1986 f350 w 6.9
ok, i have an 86 f350 with the 6.9 in it. it has 2 875cca interstate batteries(1.5 years old about). and a brand new bigger alternator. i use a 7.5 fisher mm on it and the plow moves slow. the lights do not dim for a while but after a while the lights dim and the plow gets really slow to the point that there is not enough power to move the plow at ALL. what is my problem and what do i need to do. there is new atf fluid in the pump and it is full. i have adjusted the "plow lowering" so that it should drop and go up fast. but it did nothing at all. i called a fisher dealer near me and they said it is the little hyd. pump inside that costs only 140 bucks. and when i replace that the plow will move fast, like it should. but, my question is the power issue. the last storm i went to fill up after a while and i turned the truck off and it would not start after i filled up, i had to jump it. i really need some help. a storm is comming tommorrow and i need to know what i should do. do i risk damaging the pump or alternator if i plow with it like this??? sorry this was long, thanks in advance!! jon Bigger alternator? How much? You may be just draining your system faster than the recharge. Is your volt gauge working? Going down at all? My fathers old 86 would do the same thing after about 6 hrs of plowing. That would be the time we would go to breakfast or lunch and let the truck idle in the parking lot. Between the driving and idling, it would recharge those batteries enough for a few more hours of plowing. All of our electric/hydraulic plows do that. You may want to upgrade your alternator. But first, go throught the truck and look for corroded wires and grounds. Make sure you utilize all of the avaible current you already have. All of that current draw with the plow and lights and such need extra heavy duty connections. If you let the truck sit overnight can you start it? This just happened to my '83 6.9 It was the voltage regulator draining the batteries. According to my handy dandy paper I got with my new alternator that I didn't need, the alternator will only put out 60 amps at redline (3300ish). When your plowing you probobly see 2000 on average and then its putting out about 35. Thats enough for every day driving but not too impressive. On my old plow jeep It does the same thing, Run it and its fine but if I'm working in a tight area with the lights on and a lot of angling and up and down it drains it dead. any word yet on the new front suspension on the 05 Super Duties
I heard from some where that Ford will be using coil suspension ove leaf in 05 is this true. And if so will plowing be better Welcome to here!:waving: That's the word on the street about the coil suspension. And yes, it will be excellent for plowing. Just watch out for the price that will probably come with it also. The big thing is axle position keep it centered we cool. We can always toy with the up and down stuff when loaded no problem. Air bags or Timberlins can handle this problem. I have been a FORD fan since birth, but some of the cheapening stuff FORD has done lately has scared me!!!! Please,Please remain a leader. I went to the North American auto show today and viewed the new concept F250, I could'nt see the suspension cause it was roped off, but let me tell ya, just wait, this thing is awesome !!!:redbounce :redbounce I've heard that coils don't hold weight as well as leaf springs? But then again, don't dodges have coil springs? They seem to hold the weight great. I have 2 friend, 1with a 2002 2500 Dodge with plow package and a 7.5' Fisher MM. And 1 with a 2003 Ford F250 w/plow package and 7.5MM2. The Dodge takes a HUGE nose dive with the plow. The Ford barley moves the front end. I hope thats not what will happen when Ford goes to coils like Dodge. In order for a coil to hold the plow weight it has to be really beefy well that ads up to a really stiff ride. The ford X leaf springs ride great and carry about 1000 lbs with 1" of sag..I don't see how you can do better than that.. Originally posted by LockedUP In order for a coil to hold the plow weight it has to be really beefy well that ads up to a really stiff ride... Well that's not entirely true. Load capacity would come from the actual tensile strength of the steel. As far as the stiff ride...well...it's kind of hard to explain but that would come from the design of the spacing of the gap of each coil its self. A coil spring CAN BE designed in such a way to carry the weight and have a good ride. I'm sure they can be made but have you ridden in one that can handle 1000 # plow...Wear a soft hat..:D I have a 04 F350 diesel crew cab it took me 45min to put an extra leaf in the front. Beefed it up a lot, and still rides nice. Holds an 8.5' western pro plus no problem. My friend has a 03 dodge diesel crew cab he put 3 different springs in the front wasted 2 days and did not get any more height or strength. He has an 8' western pro plus and the front end of his truck drops so much he can't adjust his lights so they will work well with plow up and down. basically what I’m saying is if ford superdutys come with coils in 05 I’m glad I just got my o4 why would ford put coils in the new superdutys does anyone know if the 450's or 550's will have coils too cause if they have leafs my next pickup will be a 550 like they say go big or go home Does dodge make a truck similar to the Ford 450/550 and the chevy 3500HD? James731 Ford does not make the 450 and 550 in a pickup. You might be able to buy a bed and mount it on the 450 and 550 chassis but the wheel base I think is longer to. Originally posted by mylawn03 Does dodge make a truck similar to the Ford 450/550 and the chevy 3500HD? They don't even make one close to the 250 or 350! :D Originally posted by james731 why would ford put coils in the new superdutys does anyone know if the 450's or 550's will have coils too cause if they have leafs my next pickup will be a 550 like they say go big or go home Why get all nervous about this until you see one.The doomsday outlook is premature. The coils could be a big improvement. I have also heard (thedieselstop.com) that the stance was lowered for loading purposes is this true? ford doesnt make a bed for the 450 or 550 i think there will be around a 6 inch gap but there is a place around my town that specializes in making the beds for the bigger trucks ford will put a bed on the 450 or 550, the local municipality just got a 550 with a regular 8 foot box on it.
