S10 V8 Oil Pan
My buddy and I are putting a 350 in a 1988 S10 2wd pickup. I was wondering where we could get the oil pan besides JTR. We got the mounts and dont feel like fooling around with mail order catalogs. We just want to get the pan and get it done already. Thanks Tony TONY........My bud across the street has a 90 S-10 with a 350 auto in it. STREET ROCKET !!! Simple drop in ! Even the V-6 engine mounts will work. Just change their position where they are mounted on the frame ! The only PIA is you have to take the bolts out of the body to frame mounts and jack the body up some CAREFULLY to put in the trans. to engine bolts. TIGHT back there ! But thats only necessary if your putting it together in 2 pieces. You should not have to swap the oil pan! But you will have to unbolt the steering shaft to hook up the exaust manifolds. NOTE : This only applies if the truck has a V-6 in it already. if its only a 2wd then id take the trans out of the truck and bolt together on the floor then reinstall it....Rob Cruise Control
I have a 2003 2500HD Siverado, basic truck. Would like to install cruise control and would like to hear ideas if anyone has any to share. Best aftermarket products, what to stay away from, etc. Appreciate any and all info, thanks... I have an 01 Sierra that I am looking at doing the same to. From the research I have done, it all depends on what motor you have. The Duramax and 8.1's have no throttle linkage - Throttle is controlled via wire. The rest of the motors all have linkage for throttle control. One guy I talked to found a wrecked Duramax that had cruise, pulled the blinker lever off, installed it in his truck and installed a fuse in the appropriate slot and had he was up and running. Wrecked late model vehicles are hard to come by around here, expecially since I need one that has an 8.1 in it. I am not sure if the Duramax and the 8.1 are interchangable, but if I find a Duramax, I'm snagging it to try it out. As far as any other motor, I have no idea what the best way to go is. Somebody else might be able to chime in. Andy I have the 6.0 under the hood, thanks for the info. Will do some more research myself. Take care... Go to www.the12volt.com Should get your answers there. Best I have found so far is letting the dealer put a factory cruise on for a mere 300 bucks. I guess at the very least it will be done right with GM equipment. Claim the puter will have to be programmed since it does not currently have it. What do you folks think about that? Need front drive shaft

Good Morning All, I bought a 2001 Chevy 2500HD Chassis/Cab last weekend. Got a great deal, but it has some issues. Some shop mounted a service body on it and cut the ends of the frame members off about and inch behind the rear shakles. I'm putting a Type III hitch and long box back on it, and have to come-up with a fix/repair/extension for the frame. What do you guys think is best? Local junk yard said they'd only sell half the frame (if they had one) not the 8" (?) I need. Could weld up some 4" channel, but worry about the hitch strength/support. Shouldn't there be another crossmember at the end of the rails too? Does anyone know if some kind of horns are available to solve this problem? Also looking for any good pictures of this area of the frame. No luck searching the web so far. Thanks for any advice you can give, cclay claysix@juno.com You should be able to weld in a piece of "C" channel, that is close to the same height of the frame, with a splice plate welded inside of the frame. You have to be careful of the area around the spring mounts though. There is one cross member at the end of the frame rails also. We dont have any gm chassis' in our shop right now so i cant get a pic for you. Thanks for the idea. I'm trying my last hope to get the actual pieces from a shop in St Louis that mounts specialty beds (cargo, wrecker, plumer's box, welders, etc) right now. Will go with the channel if no luck there by next week. There has got to be a diagram or drawing of the chassis somewhere on the web. Still searching.... Clay Tranny Swap
Does anyone know of an acceptable replacment tranny to swap into place in my K20. It has the four speed with the creeper gear, and I am looking to put a five speed with OD that will bolt up to the New Process TCase and require the least amount of mods. Any Thoughts? Well, since you have the 4 speed with granny gear, your rear drive shaft has the center support bearing. You won't need that with any auto trans. So no matter what you will need a new rear driveshaft. The easiest swap would be to get a TH700 trans, mated to a NP 208 transfer case, with the front and rear driveshafts, and swap it in. Check at www.advanceadapters.com and see what adapters they have to use your NP205 transfer case with the TH 700, or 4L80E or 4L60E transmission. ~Chuck You definatly would lose alot of beef by going to a 700r4 sm456 is a good stout trany. Almost indestructable. You say a k20 so do you have a 205 case? What are you doing that you want/need OD for? Do you care if you stay with a manual or is an auto swap ok? Usage will dictate which way you should go. He should have a 205 case, all 73's did. Like Chuck said, the 700R4 swap would is a good option,it's a direct bolt in,with the newer case and drivshafts. You would also need an automatic column,or use an aftermarket floor shifter.A donor truck would be nice,as you could just swap everything over.It was a very popular combo, and there are lots of them around. The 700R4 has lots of beef, and there are tons of aftermarket stuff to do them up right. You may be able to find a 700R4\NP205 stock combo in a newer 1 ton. You can also get an adapter to mate your 205 to a 700R4,if you want to go auto,or an NV 4500,5 speed OD manual. If you want to stay manual, then get a NV4500,and an adapter to bolt to your 205.You will need to fab a hydraulic clutch setup,or get a special belhousing with the mounts for a manual clutch linkage. If you can fab up a hydraulic setup, the clutch will feel a lot nicer. You will also need some driveshaft work to make it fit. Thanks Guys since I want to stay with the Manual it looks like time to go hunting an NV4500!!
