This noob needs help!

Hey guys I am new to this site. I visit lawnsite often and thats how I heard about this site.
Anyway here is the problem we have. We have a Meyer E-60 that came on our 1998 K2500. We purchased it used with 40,000 on it in 2000. When ever we get the chance to use the plow (not often around here) the plow tends to creep down going down the road. About every 10-15 minutes we have to raise it back up before it starts to drag the ground. We have also noticed that it doesn't seem to have a ton of lifting power or angle power. If the snow gets heavy or deep it wont hold a sharp angle and starts to creep back to the straight position and I also cant raise it to pile snow up. Somebody told us locally that it sounds like the A valve isn't closing fully but these plows are totally foreign to me. I am sure I can fix it myself if I just knew what was wrong with it. One last thing here. Is it normal for the plow to drop and slam fairly hard when you lower it? If not then thats a problem too.
BTW they are calling for a potential big snow here Monday evening through Wednesday. payup
i am sorry you bought the meyer plow when they are in good working order they do not move very fast, get on meyer's web site and download and print off a copy of their service manual ! it might help.sounds like you have conflicting problems.if the plow hit a big chunk of Ice or curb to hard or fast you could have damaged the crossover relief valve causing it to not hold angle or the b or c valve.if you try to pull the coils off and they come off hard the valve are swelled and will not open or close all the way.as far as not holding in the raise position, the ram packing cup could be worn out:confused:
would try changing the hydraulic fluid. adjusting the Quill [small screw located on top of the valve manifold] controls drop speed:guns. I have a western but should be similar:guns:
power pack builds up pressure...

tried to get an answer to this on the newbie forum but got no response:
I have an older Western (cable controlled) power pack that I'm trying to figure out if it's okay or not. after cycling the cylinders (all 3 of them) I sometimes want to look at the fluid level and so I unscrew the fill bolt. When i do this, fluid comes out under pressure. if i don't have a rag on top of the bolt, fluid shoots out everywhere. IS THIS NORMAL? is it normal for the power pack itself to build up pressure?
you are probly getting air in the system from somewhere. it probly has a leak somewhere also right? maybe you're turn rams?
it is normal .After every storm we check all levels in the trucks and some squirt the fluid ,others run out with the plug and some are fine. We have about 30 westerns both unimount and ultra mount.
03 F150 FX4 With a Blizzard plow

Alright all you mechanics and those who claim to be last night while plowing i was on the 6th 32oz cup of coffee in 12hrs and the last account getting ready to stack some snow, when my truck died never had a problem with it before and this was a light fluffy snow where should i start to look for the problem. I would like to get this fixed before the next snow comes along and the problem possibly gets worse or causes me not to be able to finish my contracts
Did it start after that?
-Eric
started right up i shut the one mini light bar off and the radio and no problem after that finished the rest of the lot and went home started right up for me this afternoon to
I know this may be personal but I have to ask, professional reasons.
How big is your key chain?:D
You may have caught with your sleeve or something as you were shifting
and accidentally turned it off?
Is the weight of your key chain putting some strain on the ignition switch?
remote, truck key, house/garage key
have had this with a bad IAC unit, also can becaused by the coil opening up when hot. Loss of ground to computer sometimes
How was the battery voltage ? all the plowing may have run the battery down some the new electronics will shut down if battery is low. I know you said it started right up and was good after that, the ride home would definetly charge the battery. Maybe if you can get it done cheap or free have it scanned for codes, the new OBDII can store codes and faults and not turn the check engine light on, if it was not serious fault and does not occur again in a certian time frame.
Here is a good Ford truck site http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php
I would think that the voltage was low and shut the computer down meaning no power to the coil (or coils). Just a guess, but if you had the blower on full blast as well, even more reason to suspect. Then again one of the idiot lights would of chimed.
Could be bad gas as well. I would just keep on running it, and like the other mentioned, if it really bothers ya, take it to see if there are any codes.
rear plow.

Daniels rear plow rasies real slow, fluid is up but when i hit the up button it hardly comes up?. just wondering if anyone else has this problem with daniels or other make?.
had a bad ram seal once with made it really slow and a big strain on the motor. The seal had swollen and became too tight.
Make sure the electric connection is clean and tight. That was the problem on mine. I guess it just was not getting enough juice causing the motor to run slow.
seen one of those running around town here, what a stupid idea...
fixed frozen connection. brought it to get my oil changed and when it was in the garage heating up everything worked fine. also for the the guy in st cath, don't mock one till you use one shaves an hour off my time also with theses wind drifts i get it to bare pavement. seen guys running in and out of drives for 5min trying to back drag drifts out. thought the same thing till i bought one. ask anyone who uses a back plow what they think of them. not trying to start a debate.
Mole, I see you are in my area where did you buy your plow? The shop I purchased mine from closed. I am looking for a new parts source. Thanks Nick

Cold+diesel = Gell

One of my drivers just Miked me with a stall out on the side of the road. At what temperature does diesel start turing to gell. Never had an issue before this with stalling out. Had the truck pluged in at his home, had a call for same slippery contditions and went out. After warming up for a few min he headed out and the truck died on the side of the road 50feet from the end of his driveway.:crying:
I know I should of put some conditioner in the fuel, to prevent freeze ups. If you read this and havent done so do it before it's too late.
DAFF
On the bright side, the wind chill is -22'F:bluebounc this is me trying to keep warm!!
He might just need a new fuel filter. You could buy some Power Service & pour it in to be safe too.
I would say new filter might help. I had the same problem back in early Dec. It would start until I got on it and as soon as it would shift into 2nd it would die. I changed the fuel filter, oil, oil filter and haven't had a problem since. It was -9 here tonight and I didn't have my truck pluged in all day, it started right up.
