Best Plow for F-450 Dump

I am planning to buy a plow for a F-450 dump. What size do you guys suggest, 8.5 , 9.0 or even 10? and what brand and model will be the best fit for this truck?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

At the risk of pissing some people off, Blizzard 8611. Most productive plow on the market. Do a search and you will see why I recommend it.
yep 8611, is t a wopping 12foot extended, and a truck like that is doing parking lots anyway might as well save 30% of your time. i have an 810 on my 250 and its 10' extended we haa....lets hope for light fluffy snow

I had a 450 with a 9 ft MC fischer. The MC was way to heavy. The truck could not go around corners with the plow down... I have a 550 with a 9 ft Fishcer X blade stainless., It`s a assume plow.
I would stick with a 9 ft...
Boss or fisher 9' v-plow is my 2 cents.
I am all for the 8611 blizzard. Nothing comes close to it. I can't wait to get mine. :)
You can go 8611 or 8611lp on the F-450. Kinda a toss up.
I saw a cool plow at a snow and ice show recently. It was an EVEREST 9' plow plow with a fixed frame that was removable with four pins. The Hydraulics lights were from fisher. It looked Heavy duty
go with the boss 9'2 V. Best plow ever.
'00 f350 power locks

If anyone is having a problem with the power locks on an 2000 F350SD The locks were moving slow and kept slowing down the more you tried to use them, sometimes one or two wouldnt work at all?
Don't mess around with the hotline I called them 3X, they will tell you to check everything from the "grounds" up!
The problem is with the Lock Actuators. I have the 4 door and all 4 was bad.
When we called our Ford dealer parts guy he cracked up and asked us "how many do you want, we are keeping 'um up on the counter, have a couple hundred of each.
Took me a lot of phone calls and about 4 hrs.
Ford should have told me on the hotline that this is a BIG problem, it would have saved me a lot of time.
Mike
It's a common Ford problem.Unusual to see all four go together though.Chrysler is having problems too,but at least they are dirt cheap for most of them, and you get the whole latch assy included.
I never replaced one on a newer Ford truck, but Tempos and cars like that, all the time. They freeze up and thats it. If I recall correctly, I could be wrong its been a while, they are riveted in and the new one needs to be riveted in also. There is also a way, my brother knows how, to take out the bad one and leave it that way and then you will just have manual locks. We did this for some of our customers who didnt want to spend the money on a new actuator and preferred to just have manual locks that work with the key. That little actuator is like $60 or so, maybe more, like I said its been a while since we did one of those jobs and actually had to buy one. They are only available from the dealer also. No regular parts store will carry them. Mike
These Actuator's were not expensive, it was just all the time involved checking all they (ford's hotline) wanted us to. We had almost every piece of interior plastic removed at one time or another and if they had just said "replace the actuators first" it would have saved me 3+hours
Mike
You should have just posted the problem on here. :D
F-150 plow/towing? good decision?

i am looking at getting myself another truck. i plan to plow driveways and small parking lots, tow a jeep on a trailer, and have this be my daily driver. will a 1/2 truck be enough for this or should i be looking at a 3/4 F-250? oh and the budget i have to work with is about 10k.
I plowed with a F150 straight 6 with a 4 speed Manual and Granny gear had a Fisher MM 7 1/2 set up for a couple of years. This truck did not stop for anything but you will beat the hell out of the front end. I now plow with a
F250HD much better truck for this job.
I got a 03 F150 this summer and I pit a 7.6ft Snow-Way on it, And I also pull a 753 Bobcat with no problums.
Some F150's are built heavier than others. If you look hard enough you might be able to find a #7700 model. Thats the one you want. Its not really a 150, but a lightweight 250 with a 150 emblem. The frame, axels, and springs are all different than any other 150. They were the only 150 that Ford built just for the purpose of plowing. There arent many out there but if you can find one you will be way ahead. I have one and they are a great truck, just not a SD.

F250 with front leaf springs makes for a goog work truck. Plowing, towing. etc. If you hang a plow on a 150 you may need a to beef up your suspension. The 3/4 is basically a heavier truck all around.
You should be able to find a decent F250 for around 10K.
I would not recomend buying one with a plow on it... If it`s gotta plow, its been worked hard !
96.5 thru 03 f 150 use torsionbar suspension unless it is reg cab & long box the front axel will not handel the weight of a standard plow (going by Federal specs) ends up about 60 or so pounds short with any of the other cab options or short box. A standard 250 (not sd ) would be a better choice and you can work with the front end without spending a small fortune.
Start buying Truck Trader Magazine if you have it around your area. There are lower mileage F-250's in it all the time. Your better off with one if your going to work it and tow. An F150 is more of a driver sometimes hauler kind of truck. You break stuff and wear stuff out and soon your saying: "I should of bought an F250!" Light duty's not always cheaper in the long run. You also have more choices of plows and brands.
I am ducking under cover as the F150 owners lock and load!
88 f250 brake lines

I have a 88 f250 diesel 4x4. The brake kine are rusting bad. I want to buy a complete stainless steel brake line kit. I bought a kit for my 86 f250 5.8 from inlinetube.com but they don;t have it fot the 88. Anyone have a source to use? Thanks
try lmc truck they show a listing for them .
Like he said LMC truck, go to thier site and request the catalog. They have all kinds of stuff listed for Fords. The lines are real pricey though.
Go buy some break line and a real good bender and bend it yourself. I just redid all of the steel lines on an 96 f150 just yesterday, and it took just a little over 3 hours for the whole job. Snap on has an assume bender and its too bad in price. It was under 100 bucks for the bender. Good luck....Rob
I dont think LMC or Nathional PArts Depot (great source for parts) has Stainless kits...why pay the extra cash? I would only get stainless if you are going to keep the vehicle over ten years. I am still have orginal lines on my 85 that are in great shape. I would just go to the local parts house and bend your own, you don't even need a bender if you are gentle and try not to many sharp angles, but the bender does a great job.
X and Y springs 96 F250

I went to get new springs from my local Ford medium/heavy truck dealer and he had code X and a code Y springs, but there was no listing for either spring as to the weight, the X springs were about $50 each and the Y spring was $87 (jobber cost) We took a guess and ordered the Y coded springs thinking cost more must carry more... the ford part number is FOF4TZ-5310-R
anyone familiar with them
thanks
DJ
The X-code springs are the heaviest weight capacity for your truck. They are the same as F-450 fornt springs. They come with the plow package. The Y-code are a little less, but I can't remember the exact weight ratings. I am very suprised the dealer didn't know this.
got them today and they were coils go figure... anyway they tried again so we will see.
Q4A is the spring code on the door
we will see what happens
